I'm in charge of organising a stag do (help me!!) and have no idea where to start with booking. So far, I've been looking at cities in Europe, Zagreb, Riga, Budapest and Prague. I've been to the last two (with the groom before) and they've been amazing. Has anyone been to Zagreb or Riga for a stag do? What are they like?

Potential dates, wedding is the 25th September:
19-23 August
3-6 September
10-13 September
17-20 September

Also, how do I book this. Is it better to book through a company that does stag dos or book flights + hotel and then book activities separate?

All the help will be appreciated.

If you can get over, then 100% Eastern Europe.

Have you thought about Bratislava - they have a shooting range under the castle, and you can stay in the Hotel Boatel, that is like a few mins walk to all the bars and Casino!

Krakow is equally as good, just head to the Polish bars off the main square. No point going over just for another Hard Rock Cafe. Jewish quarter is good too, and so is Flames.

I have seen Bratislava come up on a few sites but was unsure about it. I'll definitely consider it though.

Did Riga for 24hrs and then flew to Tallinn for the next 24hrs (was part of the gimmick).

Both beautiful places. Night life in Riga felt better. Can't remember a great deal if I am honest.

Play it safe though and pick something really typical like Prague or Budapest tho, imo. Not sure the full night life will be back in full swing.

I'm thinking of going safe, somewhere I know will be good and have been before.

Big sigh. Is a stag do really necessary in the current situation? Risking lives to get boozed up in some eastern European capital that used to be charming before the Brits discovered cheap beer there? /grump

There is a big risk of that.

If you do book, book it as a package to make sure you ATOL protected - and don't forget travel insurance with medical cover now that the EHIC is a thing of the past.
Absolutely no chance you will get travel insurance or medical cover while travelling in the middle of a pandemic to cover covid related problems.

for anyone thinking about travelling this year, best bet is Christmas. Any earlier is just fantasy. Vaccination program will slow down once the over 65s have had their jabs. To go anywhere you will need those vaccination cards showing you have had 2 shots and are at least 4 weeks post.

there is no commercially available vaccination atm. So good luck trying to get shots. You can always fake the cards.

however if you are over 65 then you probably got a good chance have been vaccinated and be able to go anywhere you want. Damn baby boomers gets the best of everything as usual.

Indeed, you'll still need medical cover for alcohol related accidents though.
Lol! That is probably the only you will be able to do. Everyone else will be wearing masks and staying in doors. It makes an interesting strip tease...more like some kind of Arabian belly dancer.

But then again in Eastern European countries they think covid is some kind of vegetable. So they will probably be busy transmitting it.

Not true. I got it for my trip to Argentina. You do have to pay extra.

and have no idea where to start with booking.

How about doing something for the British tourist industry? How about somewhere like Bath? Or Brighton? Or the Scilly Isles?

I wouldn't bother - stick to UK. Rent a bunk house in a national park somewhere, nice pub and a walk up a mountain. No need to complicate matters with European travel, Covid, Brexit etc.

Kiev?

Went there last year with a few friends and it was awesome, plenty of horrible trashy bars and plenty of cool local bars too.

Can visit Chernobyl if the budget allows (~£100pp) which i'll be doing again for sure!

A tip, set the date, set the destination and set the date you're going to book the hotel and flights. Tell people that unless they want to sort their own digs and transport then you need the money the day before the booking date, no exceptions.

Too many people half heartedly commit so you're left trying to work out how many beds to book and waiting on people dragging their heels, especially if it's a larger stag do. You also risk booking a bigger airbnb/more hotel rooms and risk being left to stump up the difference yourself or try and split it between those already going.

I took 18 people to Barcelona and somehow got them back alive and with no dropouts that way! :D
