Hi,

I'm thinking about picking up this second hand stainless steel backbox. It's roughly 3 years old - was on the chaps car for around 8 months before being stored away in his garage. Apart from needing a good clean it looks to have a little surface rust on the welds, paticularly on the tailpipe and the joint into the rear of the backbox. Would you be wary of picking one up in this condition? Might it cause any problems?

Looks alright to me, wouldnt pay much for it tho, probably £50 tops. What car is it for?

'Tis for a Saxo VTR - the standard one has completely rotted through. MOT is due end of this month and it'd fail in its current state.

They're £160 new with a lifetime warranty and he's asking £70 for it. I rekon I could get him down to £60 as it's missing the reducer to connect to the centre section :)

Looks OK from the pics. Just check the welds/pipe thoroughly for any cracking, I'm lead to believe Magnex welds aren't the best in the world (but I'm not put off them yet - may get one for my car when the time comes). I'd pay particular attention to the seams along the box and where the rear section joins it.
