stainless steel saucepans - do the handles get hot?

hi this is a question for the ocuk chefs out there :)

i currently have some plastic handled stainless saucepans and am looking to upgrade them to full stainless i.e stellar

was wondering if the handles get hot during normal use on a hob? (i appreciate they will get hot in the oven :p )

They do get hot yeah. Not incredibly. You can move them around the hobs and such, but if you're picking them up I have to use a teatowel or something.
 
They will, but how bad the effect is will generally depend on how good the pans are. The warming on my viners pans isn't a problem, I have previously had a set of cheap stainless steel pans and they got too hot to touch very quickly.
 
Guy i used to live with bought some from professional cookware, they were pretty expensive and were all stainless steel, he said he was quite the chef and needed high quality stuff.

Anyway long story short; he lived off oven cook pies and the saucepans got hot, not scalding hot but couldnt hold them for too long.
 
Mine get warm, but you can still comfortably move them around. This is coming from someone who doesn't like to drink coffee until it's warm, so you get some kind of understanding of what heat I don't like. :)

If you can afford them the John Lewis Hard Anodised range is without a doubt the best set of pans I've ever laid hands on.

Expensive but they'll last you donkeys years.

Meyer Analon's are about the best you can buy. The heat distribution is excellent. They are expensive but you can find deals for sets.

Just about any cookery program you see them in use, also Ramsey etc.

The handles gets warm and thats about it :)

The JL set are exactly the same but have silicon handles. The Meyer's are metal.

There are two sets of Analons, one with metal, one with silicon. I've read the JL pans are a cheaper range made by meyer and badged under the JL name.

Metal handles are way more versatile, you can use them in the oven and under the grill.

Mine barely get warm after boiling water for a while. Steel isn't exactly the best conductor of heat. I've never put them in the oven or anything like that tho.
 
The pans designed for induction hobs do not get hot.

This is due to the lack of air around the pan getting warmed by a gas flame or an electric ring/ceramic hob(no waste heat to speak of from induction)
