I've been thinking for years and years that'd I'd like to try stand-up comedy. Just wondered if anyone here has experience of performing it?

I'd love to know how best to get started :)

Tell me, which part of you is in Swindon and which part is in Coventry?

I'd love to try stand up also just to see if I am somehow an untapped comedy goldmine!

I would probably die onstage though. :(

maybe if you get get drunk enough at said open "mike" :p night itl be ok

This is true, although fraught with potential social faux-pas danger :p

I've been told quite a lot I should be on stage (which scares the crap out of me) and I get told by some people I'm very dry and have good timing and I think that its starting to rub off on me. It'd be a good (scary, but different) hobby for me.

I guess when I watch a stand-up, or stand-up dvd, most people just enjoy the gags, but I tend to think 'I wish I was doing that'

hows that gone work ? i

ts about how the joke is said etc ,infact most stand up ppl dont tell jokes they just talk about stuff in a funny way

jokes on the internet rarely work because of this

^^^ Tell me a joke.

Wondered how long it'd take before someone said either the above, or 'go on, make me laugh!' :p

How many stand-ups actually tell jokes? Not many, and thats not how I would do things. All the best jokes I know are stolen from someone else - I could certainly reel of a stolen one ;)

Whats the best way to kill a circus?

Go for the juggler! :p

If you're gonna do an open mike, you must have some very good comebacks at hecklers.

Thats the bizarre thing, I think dealing with hecklers would be easier than putting an actual routine together, because it's impromptu. I guess I can just rely on a wit reflex in that respect.

Actually, before anyone points it out, I do realise I'm not funny on message boards :p

Hey, you can never please everyone :) I think thats important to remember.

Why don't you ask your local for 30 minutes of the drinkers time whilst they're drinking?

Edit: if they like it, setup regular friday laugh night in which you get 30% of drink profits made by the pub! :D
