Ok, well since its snowing etc and is generally really bad weather atm im starting to think I may be better getting something to work with in my room, Im not a fan of gyms really and with a treadmill in my room I know ill use it more than I would go running.
It would be ideal to get up on a morning and use it to warm me up, and I could have my breakfast in the oven or something while im using it, plus itd set me up for the day wouldnt it.

Does anyone know much about this treadmill or magnetics for that fact?
Im not a hardcore user Ill just be caining it for about 30mins on a morning and whenever i feel like getting the endorfin buzz when the weathers putting me off outside.
Not willing to spend LOADS on one since its only going to be for a few months and then im not sure what I will do with it, its a lot more practical than a gym etc for me.

Thanksssssss

ok fine, my mates had a genious idea, hire a treadmill.

Do these prices for these mills look decent? Come on surely some of you know something about treadmills :| Its going to be more expensive, but its motorized, better quality(i hope?), has the heartrate monitors etc and Ill be able to push myself towards faster speeds.
Im starting some casual training which will develop into something harder so I dont struggle through armed forces basic training after I graduate Uni.

treadmill is handier in my room because ill see it on a morning and wont have an excuse not to use it, i cant drive so id have to walk to a gym and when the weathers crap i know i wont bother.

Why dont you just go running out doors?
Is it a motivational problem that is making you go the treadmill route?

From my limited experience with treadmills, I find that running outdoors makes tires me out more (which is good). Treadmills tend to tax me less. Also, time goes faster when I run outdoors, so, 30mins of outdoor running is mentally easier to cope with than 30 mins on a treadmill.

EDIT: another point to consider is: do you live on the ground floor? If anyone lives below you, the sound of the treadmill will be terrible and wont be fair on the people living below you.

its mostly a motivational problem outdoors yes, Im not really able to run far at the moment so when its freezing(which it bloody is up north) I tend to not want to, And on a morning having to walk down to the running track and then back again adds extra time onto it.
A treadmill was attractive because if its at the bottom of my bed I will see it on a morning and get right on it(because its also freezing in my flat on a morning, and I take a while to warm up) 30mins on a morning on a treadmill will set me up for the rest of the day, and is better than 0 minutes outdoors running.
I plan to do my outdoor running on weekends/nights when I dont think its too cold or just feel like it, So the hired treadmill would literally be for 8weeks maximum.

Theres a reasoning behind what seems to be madness, Its not going to be a massive financial hit to me to pay £60 for a month using a decent treadmill, and it will jump start my fitness, as it will start drilling it into my routine(after iv got rid of the treadmill I wont know what else to do other than run, by which time it will be warmer and ill handle the running better)

Steel Flex 3300 is what im looking at atm.

You dont necessarily have to go to a running track to run. You can run anywhere. All my outdoor running is done on the streets, late at night when all the parks are no-go areas as they are pitch black.

My belief is that if it is a motivational problem (which is the problem most people have), then buying "gadgets" wont really solve the problem.

As an example, a friend of mine who isnt into exercise at all, stated that he hasnt been running for a year or so. I said, why not start now? He said, he has an IPOD on order and that once that arrives he will be running 3 times per week. I knew this IPOD was just an excuse. Anyway, the IPOD arrived and it turns out that he has been running but only twice in about a month.

I'm not saying that you shouldnt get the treadmill as it might help you to get motivated, but I honestly feel that gadgets such as IPODs and treadmills are just an excuse not to exercise. After the arrival of an IPOD or treadmill, there wont be much of a difference. Initially, after the treadmill arrives, in the first week, I think you will be using it a lot. After this honeymoon period is over, it will hardly get any use. I could be wrong though, but for most people, this is what happens.

Here's a plan. Tomorrow, when you wake up, go for a 15 minute run, on the streets. No need to goto any running track. Dont run more than 15mins as anymore than that would require a serious amount of motivation. Use that as a starting point and increase the distance you run, week by week, by a few metres.

Anyway. Good luck man and dont forget to report back your results, whichever direction you choose to go: treadmill or no treadmill.

the thing is, when i wake up im always freezing, shivering beyond belief, and i dont want to get up, the thought of getting out my bed and walking around my freezing flat puts me off, nevermind going outside, if i saw the treadmill ill push myself to get onto it and warm up.
The running track is at bottom of street btw, its more attractive than street running due to it being harder to run on and less impact on joints :)

Iv got my heart set on the treadmill, just wanted some input to see if it was a decent choice of mill to hire, I know it will get me motivated as i will force it into my routine, its a lot easier getting up and going on the treadmill than getting up and going outside in the bitter cold, but im planning on hiring it so that i get into a routine and then when its gone ill have to go outside :)

Thanks for the advice etc and response, i was like your mate about the ipod etc etc but now i know iv gota get into my running, its just its freezing outside and i was looking at getting myself some proper bass layers(iv had a few runs and i need them tbh, im a profuse sweater) and then thought a treadmill may be a better option for a while because Ill buy the base layers and still wont want to go running when its snowing or blowing a gail.
