I don't watch much Star Trek, but when it comes on i've always wondered, why do the Romulans not get on with the Federation? Not just the Federation, the Klingons too. They don't get on with them! Not to mention the Vulcans! Are the Romulans the space rejects of the future?

Who are the Cardassians? What's their beef with the Federation?

Why are Klingons so grumpy to the Federation even though both groups are freinds?

Yet they all combine forces when the Borg attack. I'm confused

Also, whats the difference between Vulcans and Romulans.

I want to Google these things but put yourself in my shoes. I don't get layman's answers! They talk about quantum nacelles and warp plasma conduits with RX2 kits. :-/

Help :p

Why are Klingons so grumpy to the Federation even though both groups are freinds?

They fight for honor and would rather die then get captured, not the same trate as humans.

Who are the Cardassians? What's their beef with the Federation?

I think this is to do with them inslaving the bajoran's and the federation helping out?

Yet they all combine forces when the Borg attack. I'm confused

they may not see eye to eye but the Borg are the biggest threat so difference are put aside

Also, whats the difference between Vulcans and Romulans.

not to sure tbh :)

im not a nerd but used to watch it with my dad

Nope, they're the rejects of the past. The Vulcan race split. According to various storylines, Vulcans have notoriously strong and violent emotions and certainly had a very violent history. A group of Vulcans decided that suppressing their emotions and embracing logic was the only way forward. Many followed, but many didn't. Those who didn't moved to Romulus.

They never got on well with anyone tbh and had numerous squabbles with the Federation. Then the Dominion butted in and they saw it as an opportunity to deal with those they didn't like and took it.

Two words: Warrior race.

Yet they all combine forces when the Borg attack. I'm confused
One word: Honour.

Also, whats the difference between Vulcans and Romulans.
See above.

/geek mode off. :)

werent the romulans originally just a sect of vulcans who didnt wholely believe in logic > * and as such were outcast?

They're the Vulcan equivalent of chavs.

They're jealous 'cos they can't wear bowties.

You'd be grumpy too when you find out that your favourite warriors drink - prune juice - is used as a laxative by everyone else.

Nobody likes Borgs. Ask John McEnroe.

Vulcans don't like to party, Romulans do, but everyone hates Romulans so they never get invited.

All American Sci-Fi is allegorical.

In Star Trek, the Federation (USA) are the good, peace loving, thoughtful race who only obliterate their enemies to save the rest of the galaxy from being overrun by nasty, evil races who want to take over the world.

In the 60s and 70s the Klingons and Romulans were communists who's only thoughts were to conquer the world and make everybody the same as them.

In the 90s it was the Cardassians and the Dominion - the Cardassians are the Palestinians, "cruelly subjugating" the "peaceful" Bajorans (Israelis). The Dominian are Arabs/Muslims in general.

The next federation enemies will be religious fanatics who pray 5 times a day and attack innocent Federation convoys with suicide attacks - watch this space ;)

Stan :)

Actually, one of the first battles against the dominion resulted in the loss of the a galaxy class ship due to a suicide run by a jem'hadar ship.

Federation are good at losing Galaxy Class starships. Enterprise D, Yamamoto and Odyssey.

Probably lost a few more too in DS9 uber-battles

SiriusB

According to the non-cannon stuff, the entire reason for the existence of the sovereign class ships is because Starfleet lost so many Galaxy class ships compared to any other classes, that they figured there must be something inherently bad about the design. Hence the USS Sovereign being commissioned, followed shortly by the Enterprise E.

the cardasians are a race of intellectuals, in deep space nine and the next generation many references are made to their once proud and accomplished culture, but over time, Millitary ideals overtook those of pacifism in there politics and an Empire was built.

From what i understand there have been 2 major wars against the federation, the first was over territorial disputes as the Federation and cardasian borders collided, the second some 15 years later was a simple war to annihilate the federation with Dominion and Breen help.

Why are Klingons so grumpy to the Federation even though both groups are freinds?

after over 100 years of fighting the federations expansion they were forced to commit to a peace treaty with them or face extinction as an empire due to the death of their home world (see StarTrek VI) that would be enough to make a race at the very least... terminally annoyed.

Yet they all combine forces when the Borg attack. I'm confused

They dont, the borg were taken on at Wolf 359 by the federation and Klingons alone and again by just the federation during Startrek VIII:First Contact, they are the only 2 major encounters with the borg baring in voyager when the borg fell from grace and were pretty much turned into pansies by the writers.

Also, whats the difference between Vulcans and Romulans.

vulcans aspired to a higher controlled emotional state and deep understanding of logic to control the basic violent instincts that were genetically inherrant to their race.

a separatist group believing that their emotions, intelligence and anger made them stronger did not wish to follow the vulcan way and left vulcan to found a new homeworld and a new society, fueld by paranoia they have some of the most fierce and largest ships ever seen in the star trek universe. barring the scimitar in startrek nemesis as that entire film should have been dumped in a bin and burned, much like most of the tv show: enterprise.

Right, got a few more questions for you nutcases that know the answer to them! :p

At the end of Voyager (I think it's End Game) why the hell is Tuvok crazy and insane?

What name does the doctor adopt?

When the crew finally gets home, what happens to 7 of 9 (jeese she's fit! ) and The Doctor?

What happens to Chakotey, Tores and the other people who at first were part of that small mercenary group?

And, how the hell fo Chakotey, Tores and the other people part of that group know how to fly Federation ships, know how the Federation works etc? I mean, at the start of Voyager, Chokotey is assigned First Officer without any experience!

Why does Janeway want Paris to fly her ship at the start of the Voyager series? Why not the Ensign down the road having a lager?

Thanks :)
