Star Trek: The Original Series

I got the blu-rays a few weeks back. I've just got to finish season 7 of TNG before I start watching. Still deciding on what version to watch first - remastered or original.

TOS is a joy. Hilariously cheesy with so many "WTF?" moments. It's not "good" in the same way TNG is "good".... but for pure entertainment it can't be beat. Shatner is a legend :D

Well I got TOS blu ray box set for christmas and am LOVING it!

I think I only really know bits of season 2 and 3 as so far I am 8 episodes into season 1 and they are all new/extremely enjoyable :D

Later Treks that I watched as a kid are better (both in writing and production) but the charm of the original series is really something to enjoy :)

Plus watching all star trek as an adult has made me realise how much innuendo and general sex is implicated in this! Never noticed as a kid... (original series women have been a new standard of classy/hot)

The cheese. is. What makes it so great. Get it. and. You will never look back. The. Over the top acting. Is. All part of the. Experience!

And of course shatners delivery is so unique it sort of defined the whole series :D People slate him for it but actually i wouldn't have it any other way, the movies are epic too, funnily enough the best star trek had very little to do with space, pretty good when they was just floating about poncing around the universe though :)

I'm tempted to get this on blu-ray as I've never really watched it, but is it good?

Placed in it's original time-frame it was outstanding, it was first aired in the mid 60's when the staple diet on TV was westerns the likes of Bonanza, Gunsmoke, the High Chaparral with light comedies like MR Ed, and the Munsters being popular. I suppose the closest thing to it would have been Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, or The Man from Uncle.

The stories and plot lines are typical of the day, high drama with leading man and side kick, but StarTrek developed it's characters way better than most. it was one of television's first multiracial casts, and the first televised multiracial kiss. (Uhura & Kirk)

I was born in the early 60's, so I watched first time round and thoroughly enjoyed every episode. The new DVD's have been digitally remastered so should be even better than the first time around

By today's standards it's a little dated, with a touch of the drama queen about it, but all the more entertaing because of it.

(showing my age now, didn't need to Google any of that... LOL)

Original trek is good but later ones are better, though TNG has aged quickly.

Star Voyager: good with the best ending (and Seven of Nine in incredibly tight uniforms :D )

Deep Space Nine had the best story lines and characters but the ending was hopeless.

Enterprise was okay.
