OK so I'm about to go into my second year of insurance with my 1.0 Micra. It's been a great little run around but I want to start thinking about something a little bit better!

Ideally some more power and comfort would be nice but, being a student, I don't have oodles of money so price has to be fairly low, roughly £1500.

Some ideas would be nice :)

You've not exactly given us much to go on.

  • More Power
  • £1500
  • Comfort
Doesn't really narrow it down to me.

What about size, style, number of doors, engine size/insurance limitations, your age?

Sorry, I'm currently 19 (20 in september), looking to keep size still fairly small, and would like to keep insurance to around £1500 max ideally.

And no I want a little more power than a 1.3 :D

1.4 Clio/Fiesta

Get rid of the Micra too. Unless you are married and have to share a car with someone, you should only need 1.

Unless you want a workhorse and something like a Lotus Elise?

people like you annoy me.

just because a car is big in size does not mean that it is big in insurance.

Im 21, male and have 2 years no claims. my last insurance (march this year) was £392 on a 1.4 L Reg Fiesta that has now gone to the scrap heap...

Insurance on a 2.0 T Reg Mondeo Si, £355. So its LESS for me to insure a 2.0l mondeo than it was to insure a 1.4 fiesta. Dont just think big means more.

My sister just spent £7500 on a new Fiesta (07 plate) and her insurance costs her £700 with 1 years no claims and shes now 20.

Keeping it small is not an excuse. its the associated image that goes with the car. (cue fox and his same insurance group as 530 sport quotes).

Basically, Mondeo.

I don't see how that annoys you?

I'm fairly tight for money and as I already have a claim to my name, getting cheaper insurance hasn't been easy (my location could be a factor also).

I've looked at Mondeos on the bay (really liked an ST220 but that's quite a bit above my budget!).

The insurance figures you quote - are they TPFT or FC?

Mrk2 Megane. I picked up mine for 2400 at a car auction down in kent and have seen you can pick a decent example up for about 1700.

This is for the Sport Alize 1.6 16v model, very nice run around and has a bit of poke in the lower gears.

It wouldn't be a OcUK car recommendation thread without :-

Prelude 2.2vtec, 1.5k should get a decent 4th Gen, insurance can be a bit of a lottery though.

dunno if you'll get a GTI insured for £1500 - i struggled to insure my 1.6 mk3 golf for £1200 at your age. try it with a random GTI plate off autotrader or pistonheads

I'm looking at this route after getting a horrible Toyota Verso company car. My Leon Cupra will just sit in the drive, so I'm thinking of selling it and heading for the Lotus Elise route, but don't know much about them..

I'm going to visit one of these today for a first car. X reg, 1000 quid. It has done 101k miles though. I'm bringing along my mate's dad who is a mechanic, is there anything we need to look out for?

Sorry for the mini hijack :)
