Stella Shandy Argument

Won't see it with Scotch whisky -this must be a minimum of 40%. Also, because you water spirit down with whisky, I imagine the tax arrangements for the alcohol produced are somewhat different to beer/ciders where the alcohol starts at 0% and is created.

Odd you should mention it, but it was only a gentlemen's agreement that kept spirits at 40%. There is now a legal minimum but it's 37.5% (I think the EU must have been involved to actually arrive at 37.5). Generally most spirits are 40 or above but the supermarket own brands are usually 37.5%.

As for the question, just count the total amount of Stella you drink and ignore the Lemonade.

OP should have thought about making the thread before drinking shandy tbh, might have actually realized the idiocy of it.

Actually the OP may have a point. I mean think about it.

1 pint of stella = 2.5 units
1/2 pint of stella = 1.25 units
Lemonade = 0 units

1.25*0 = 0
As lemonade (barely) has more bubbles than stella, after drinking a can of stella which has been combined with lemonade i'd be happy to say 80% of the alcohol content has gone, therefore effectively making each can of stella 1% alcohol. Oh wait...

I've just re-read your post Katsumoto, my bad. I blame it on the Jubilee drinks :p

Oh now they were good. My favourite pubs last day of the jubilee festival was tuesday, technically yesterday. They had free pints from 7pm onwards and we had a few, and also walked out with 20 pints of the various beers they had for free.
