Still on the lookout for a replacement. Fast Saloon 6k

I was having a think about this, really unable to come up with anything better than an ST220, but then it occurred to me, that almost forgotten car, the Subaru Forester Turbo? very good performance, very practical and doesn't cost the same to insure as an Impreza, or attract all the wrong kind of attention. They come with 16 or 17" wheels too, so not massively expensive to shoe and are frighteningly reliable from what I have read.

That doesnt seem a bad shout actually.

No doubt everybody else will think its suicide being an import WRX though

What? You just said you would like something with a nice interior. You wouldn't buy a 2002 320 I showed you on the basis it'd cost a lot to run, but you'd by a 1998 Import only special with a plastic fantastic dash and horrid seats?

You sir, must surely be a woman?

nice interior if its a boring 1.8 econobox.

If its got a bit of something interesting (like the subaru burble and a bit of go) then i forgo the interior.

Just if its not got a bit of go, doesnt sound good, doesnt look good (because its got crap alloys and no bodykit being a non sport model) what else have you got to enjoy from the car other than the interior ?

The later, post 2004 models have much better interiors and offten come with leather seats too. I think you could get one for £6k ...just about.

How about this one It has leather and a full service history, all documented apparently. Ok so it's not the 2004+ one I was looking for but it looks like a nice car, in a sort of butch lesbian tree surgeon sort of way :)

They have the wrong numbers in for the turbo 2.0 though, it's got a lot more than 125bhp, that's the n/a one, the turbo cracks 0-60 in something like 6.1 seconds.

We agree on something at last

theres not one on pistonheads, and im at work so cant get on autotrader at the minute.

Arhh ok, well I've screenshoted the main add for you then, and hosted it myself. Here is another picture of the car in a sort of side profile to give you an idea, it has black leather seats, although the interior picture isn't very good, doesn't show much. Has the huge glass sunroof too I think, the one that you could fit Robbie Coltrane through.

the way i see it, i want something interesting.

If it has to be a 1.8 boring econobox family mobile, i at least want something with a nice interior so at least i have one thing to enjoy. Even if its not a wave or torque and a v6 exhaust note.

Trouble is, a BMW would fit this bill perfectly, but it wont do it while solving the problem that the mrs wants it to - which is throwing up random large bills all the time. A BMW 318 will cost more to run / service than a 1.8 mondeo, so it doesnt get me any further.

If it does have something about it, with a nice turbo engine and the subaru burble exhaust note, i diont care about the interior (remember i own a vauxhall) Deep down i know the forrester is going to throw up just as many large bills as the 318 however :(

And I want an E92 M3 but sometimes we have to compromise to fit our personal circumstances.

so that means im doomed to a 2.0 mondeo then ? :(

unless you can suggest anything better ? im out of ideas :(

There's been plenty of good suggestions. I don't understand your hesitation with a lot of them. You have a few k put aside IF anything major goes wrong, then it's just normal car running costs.

MrLOL asks for a £6k Saloon. You suggest a £9k hatchback :D

more versitile than a saloon = wyn wyn

he should find the extra £3k and be done with it, this thread has gone on way too long

The Volvo S60 T5 could work too, nice interior and good performance, low insurance for what it is too.

Is there really no way you can just keep the Vectra without getting a divorce?. ...can't you sit down with the Mrs, I assume she has calmed down now about it and do the numbers with her and show her why you should keep it. Surely she understands that you'ed be unhappy with a normal run of the mill car, and unless you are in a possition where you have to change, she shouldn't force it.
