You manually close apps in WP7 by using the back arrow rather than the windows button. Press and hold the back arrow key to get the carousel / task manager showing the apps that are live. You can then pan through them to either switch back to an App, or switch to it and then exit it with back arrow to close it.

without flashing a custom rom can i load .xap files?

found a few nice ones and one that does folders but need a way to load them

also found a nice free app in the market to place shortcuts on the main menu called connectivity shortcuts

Unfortunately these connectivity short cuts will only take you to the menu where you can turn things on and off, they won't actually do it for you.

I was looking at a lot of the WP7.5 customer roms and there wasnt much. Hopefully with Apollo we will see a better customer up take, and a much better modder community over at XDA, it did start with with winmo.
