My personal view has always been: what's the bit you aren't telling me? Because even if it's the truth and nothing but the truth, I guarantee it's not the whole truth. Everyone does this: "tidy up" the story. Leave out the bits that complicate it. Simplify it. Etc. And vital evidence gets left out.
You are broadly correct but I don't think they have had to do much if any spin work on this. All the performative BS that the yoot will like ie. OMG, the law is so dumb, you can get around it by this really stupid trick is stupid and counterproductive but unless they are absolute masterminds then the CEO of B&M and the store owner have tried to steal the guys lego.
Its not like they have been speculating, they have a ridiculous number of clips of both the CEO and the owner lying, admitting they aren't going to give back stuff they had taken, completely doing 180 turns on the truth and trying to lie and cheat at almost every turn. They simply did not think this was going to go beyond a little town spat and they had all the power as evidenced by their influence on the police. Its grown well beyond their sphere of power and when they realised that they have been trying to deflect blame and play dumb.
I'm sure there is stuff that we haven't been told and it will all come out in time but I am very sure that the CEO and owner have been absolute scumbags on this.
