Stolen Lego, corrupt police and a youtuber.

I've been a fan of Ben for a few years now, watched some of his early stuff where he infiltrated various cults, nice to see he found a story that has blown up. Sure his editing style isn't for everyone, but he does have balls and puts in a lot of work.

He's even previously had potential streaming deals with some of the big streaming companies, but they rejected the projects he put together because they were apparently too off the wall, not sure how true that is, he has a Banksy doc is on his Patreon, which I think was part of a streaming deal, but got rejected and is supposed to be good, not had a chance to watch it though.

Interesting, personally I don't like Banksy and would rid of his art in an instant as with any kind of such art. Does his video go on to expose who he actually is? Thinking of subbing for a month to watch some things
to check out what's not on YouTube.
 
Ha. Never thought I would see this on here. I watched the first video 21st May and as people have stated, the story is so interesting you are just invested. Even bought the patreon for one month for the second episode. I'm happy to when the content is this good.

My main takeaways will rely on how much Ben helped or harmed the situation with his antics. He needs to go big and dramatise things for YouTube but if it hurts the overall case is it worth it. For Mansell, he's covered, the GoFundMe far exceeds the amount for the Lego. But I am not opposed to exposing of corporate behaviour but am much more interested in the Forks Police corruption side. I hope this side goes forward as it is much harder to go after a police force, although there is plenty of evidence depending on the legal pressure from other lawsuits Ben and his colleagues may not to choose to take on the bigger challenge. He would have no problem with funding now but it is years of his/their lives.

Also just to say, don't think Ben will do any jail time - going against the freedom of speech behind his videos is a MASSIVE thing and if they jailed him the overall impact would be much bigger.

I belive all the suits are currently in Utah and think they are pushing for federal level. Hope they get this as that would eliminate the religious pressure.

I'm not sure TBH as I haven't watched it, I've been meaning to sub to his Patreon for a month just to support him and give it a watch as I've followed his work for years, but haven't had a chance yet. Might do it this week.

After googling it looks like more of a capers vid trying to pass off some work as a Banksy and try to get it authenticated as opposed to revealing who he is:

This was an interesting and weird one, which I enjoyed from last year, where he tracks down a super weird and ***** up horror movie director.


He also has a multi part one from a few years back where he infiltrated the 12 tribes cult who owns the Yellow Deli restaurant. It's kind of weird and it's hard to decipher which of his old vids are relevant. But there was definitely some interesting footage from his glasses camera, I think they even tried to help someone escape the cult. Almost felt more high stakes because it involved real peoples lives being brainwashed by a cult as opposed to exposing corporate greed. Probably not as polished too as was earlier in his career.
 
The thing that made me rage about all this is that they call them "Legos" :mad:

I also can't understand why anyone would hand over $200k worth of Lego to a franchise store to sell for them, instead of just selling it themselves.

Part of it was getting them evaluated I believe, and the collection belonged to an elderly man in ill health.

It was his son trying to move them on for him, probably assumed this was the easiest/safest way as the shop used to have a good reputation. I can't say I'd want to personally faff with a $200,000 collection regardless of what it was, I'd look into the easiest route myself even if it meant not necessarily getting as much for everything.

I was surprised how the business model even works in the age of the internet. Then I looked how much they make low balling prices and taking huge cuts.

I guess Americans are just dumb.

That 200k set. They would take 60k+ in percentage which is just daft and lazy by the original seller. He could just take a day trip to some conventions a couple of times a year and shift it all on.

This is where he messed up IMO - He got enough eyes on it (Asmon and Penguinz0 aka MoistCritical/Charlie, plus all the others... must be 50-100M pairs of eyes on it now), but he's now technically an international fugitive, skipping the country while knowing there's a warrant out for him.

Yeah I saw that one too.. laughable but clearly just an example of 'respeck my authoritah' - He should have just laughed and walked away from it, would have been a funny story to tell on a poker night, but now makes him look like a total moron...

Hadn't heard of him before this, but have been binging his older content and it's fantastic (Romeo Valentine, the 'extreme haunted house' one, Scientology, the restaurant cult etc.) ... I haven't seen the Banksy one though, and don't love the idea as I think that's part of the 'art' of it and doxxing him would be a net-negative (chatting about that with a friend last month, I wouldn't be totally surprised if it had started as one guy but has now grown into a 'movement' or other people colluding... Like an 'anon' type thing)

Yeah, looks like the company on a corporate level are now in full damage control mode and will settle to make it go away (which they should have done a lot earlier).
The police and church corruption angle is a lot more interesting, although 'qualified immunity' so will probably go nowhere, but I'd love to see a civil rights lawyer take a swing at it, as I can see arguments under the 1st, 4th (maybe 5th) and 6th amendments :cry:
 
Unable to win by normal means, it sounds like the company at fault have decided to use The Big Lie tactic.
