If I was to buy a tomtom second hand, what happens if its stolen? Will it close down and not work etc? Im looking at second hand ones on ebay, which lets be honest 50% are nicked

If it's a "too good to be true" price then its probably stolen.
So why even think about buying anything which has been stolen?

I bet if anyone actually had one nicked from their car here they would be straight on the forums calling them scum etc.
However people are quite happy to buy them knowing full well somebody else has probably suffered...

If it hasnt got a box, I wouldnt buy it, why would you want something that is possibly/probably stolen...?

Just because it doesn't have a box means it's stolen? What if it's OEM? Or after a while the owner throws away the box?

I beg to differ I recently was in France and while parked up by the river, a driver pulled up with some kinda sat nav stuck to the window. Left the windows down slightly as it 34 C that day. Its the pikie country we live in which sucks and thieving smack heads should have there hands removed if caught IMO

Yeah it was a tounge in cheek dig at myself as my car was broken into as I left the cradle stuck to the windscreen. Lucky for the scum I'd left it in the glovebox as I'd only nipped in to Tesco long enough to pick up 3 items :o

Whilst I agree its our own responsibility to protect ourselves against crime (which is why my cradle now always leaves the car with the sat nav) but where does it end? Taking my LCD telly with me when I nip up the shops?!

EDIT- on a side note I thought crime was rife in France, especially Paris and other highly built up areas.

Been on holiday in Norway the last month, has been no problem leaving my SatNav stuck on my windscreen 24/7. People there dont even bother locking their cars, or homes in many areas.

Burglary seems to be considered an extremely 'minor' crime in Britain, and with so many people prepared to buy stolen goods, rather than cough up and pay high street, or even internet prices then the incentive to steal isnt going to disappear.

Over the last 15 years, I've had 10 car stereo's ripped out of my car, cd players, subs, amps the works, all fully fitted, amazing how fast these guys can strip them. Smashed the faceplates before I threw them, just to make sure they didnt end up on the front of a hot stereo.

All our government cares about is more taxes, and easy to solve crime. Speeding being an obvious target. Should ban speed cameras, and spend a lot more money on a real police force. Lucky to see a policeman once a week around where I live, and even then its just a drive through in a panda car. Cops on the beat is what this country needs.

Ok, even in Norway, major city's like Oslo have a certain level of crime, but in smaller rural communities its virtually unheard of. Here though, everywhere is at some level of risk from burglars.
