I've been watching some of my Bodybuilding DVD's again & noticed that they're all wearing some sort of stomach belt when they're doing cardio.

What does it do ?

maybe they left it on after the weights? or it's there costume for the whole 'dvd workout' image! :p

No it looks ike a soft neoprene belt.

Done some google seacrh & apperantly it's a sweat belt.

Can't see how that will increase the fat burning around your waist though ?

Neoprene belts, are the modern light replacemnet for the big old bulky belts that I always used. The primary function is lower vertebrae support/protection it could prevent a hernia, when deadlifting or squating its important to tighten the guts which in turn keeps your body from buckling under the weight.

When I trained I would always wear a belt from start to finish of training session, but I would loosen it slighty if heavey lifting excersises where not being done.

During cardio a belt could be being used to act as a resistance for the abs to work against creating a tougher ab workout.

God this is an old thread.

I'd never use a belt for cardio :/

I still don't use one for 200kg+ deadlifts and squats. If you build up a strong core which is vital for big lifts until you get to the stage where your body cannot cope only then should you really need a belt.

lol "sweat belt to increase burning of abdominal fat" LOL

Its most likely a light support belt for comfort, if i run on a treadmill or even walk for a long period my lower back can get sore, its what comes of weighing 250lbs!

It's not hooked up to the machines by any chance is it? Some of the fancier places have a system of wearing your own special cardio belt and plugging yourself into the machines as you go round to record stats and whatever.
