Storing CD's on HDD/SSD etc.

Moving abroad and want to record my CD's in a lossless format that will also allow me to retain (or return it to) the original CD format if I wish so I could burn it to a CD.

What's the current lossless compression of choice? FLAC?

Yup.

There's several guides online on how to rip CD's using EAC and AccurateRip to get the best possible image.

you could also use iTunes and convert it to ALAC

Really any lossless format will do as you can always convert bettween them at a later date so I'd recomend using what ever is most convenient for your usage, I ripped all mine to WMA lossless as 99% of my use is in windows media centre and WMA just works with it.

Think about you players, what media centre software will you use? do you have any portables like ipods etc.
