Strange boot issues on Vista 64

This is an odd one, my PC runs fine all the time. It runs cool and quiet and is clocked at 3.15GHz on 4GB of RAM. Not far over volts either. All is well.

However last 3 days, first time turned on in the day, it will not boot. It clears post, then sits black screened, just before the VISTA circular logo.

If I hit the restart button it is fine. If I power it down for any length of time during the day and turn it on again, it starts fine!

Only 1st boot of the day after a night off! Any clues?

I keep power to the PC plugged in and power to it on.

Is it tired?

I would suggest taking note of your overclock settings now and reset to the default settings. Run like this for a few days to test, if the problem goes away it's your overclocks, if not then your looking at a possible Mobo fault.

I've heard of this issue before, do you have the latest bios update for your mobo? Maybe it just needs a little bit more voltage on the CPU or MCH, you never know... It's indeed a good idea to test it also on default settings (not overclocked) to see if the problem is still there, if so you might need a RMA :P

I had this. Would freeze just on the loading bar of vista just as it was fading in. Would do it about 5 times a week (PC used everyday). I upped the northbridge voltage by 0.1v and it didnt fail for ages. It then did it again once more so i upped it to +0.2v and its been fine ever since. I also run 4gig

Just remember, about 3 weeks ago, I eased the CPU voltage down .1Volts to try and get cooler performance, have notched it back up that 0.1 and it seems to have stopped, 2 cold starts no issues!

Thanks All
