Hi

Looking for some advice ont he following saga please...

I had the Asus P5N-e board for a couple of years and last week tried to flash the bios. All seemed to go well apart from it wouldn't boot with my GeIL 4GB (4x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz DDR2 Dual RAM. I took two sticks out and it booted fine but not matter what settings I changed in the bios (voltages, timings and such it wouldn't boot with 4 sticks.

I bit the bullet and ordered a new motherboard which i had been meaning to do for a while. I went for the GA-EP45-UD3R DDR2 board which had very good reviews.

I set it up as normal but it wouldn't boot with my 4 sticks of RAM again ( I got lots of short beeps). I took two sticks out and it booted fine. I ran MEMTEST on the two sticks for 7 hours with no errors. I swap the stick about with various combinations and they all ran fine with 2 sticks and passed MEMEST with flying colours.

I then swapped to 4 sticks again. It booted up fine, I ran MEMTEST but it crashed before completing the first pass. I tried upping the voltage on the DRAm manually to 2.1V, still not luck and tried adjusting the timings to 4-4-4-12 but again with no luck.

Any ideas would be appreciated. If you think I need new RAM then any suggestions on the type to get would be helpful.

Cheers.

Yeah got the latest BIOS. Tried various combinations fo things last night - got some new RAM arriving today so we'll see what that holds.

As you've had the same problem with two completely different mobo's but the same RAM, it definitely looks like the RAM is the faulty component. I've got two UD3Ps (dual graphics version of the UD3R) and have run various combinations of Corsair XMS DHX RAM up to 8GB with no trouble at all.
