Stratocaster Plus Deluxe

Hey guys, I'm looking at a Strat on ebay, and it's a 1990 Plus Deluxe model, but it doesn't mention if it's a USA, Jap or a Mex.

Am I right in thinking the Plus Deluxe models are USA made with different pickups and a few other alterations?

Bonzer!

Thanks a lot :)

Has anyone got one/played one?

From what I can see they have locking machine heads, different pickups and a few differences to a standard strat.

They're USA made, and haven't been made since the mid 1990s i don't think.

They come with Lace Sensor pickups, sperzel locking tuners, and a roller nut. Those are also found on the Strat Plus. The plus deluxe has the nicer paint job (translucent), pearl pickguard, and the Fender/Floyd Rose bridge which is only available on the Strat Plus Deluxe, and the Strat Elite. If i'd been able to find one, i'd have got one instead of my Japanese '62 reissue.

I played one a while back, and I was really underwhelmed... Bit of a dog's breakfast spec wise IMO. Not really a Lace fan though, so that might have biased me. It's not set up as a heavy rock guitar, electric/pup wise, but it's lumbered with a daft bridge. My HRR Strat might have a floyd rose, but at least I can get parts for it, and the rest of the spec means it's a good choice for rock.

You could make a good guitar out of one I'm sure... But I'd start somewhere else. Too expensive a guitar to tear apart. And personally, I wouldn't want any older guitar with uncommon hardware, it's a hassle and you don't really get a lot of benefit.

I have just started to learn the Electric Guitar and was reading this thread and slowly getting my knowledge of guitars up. Can someone tell me the advantage of Locking Machine Heads please. I understand they Stop the tuning screws from turning ? but if so, for what purpose ?

thank you

They make fitting new strings an incredibly quick job as all you have to do is thread the string through, lock it with the screw and then tune it. Also, they are not as prone to string slip. They don't stop the screw from turning but rather prevent the string from slipping round the tuner.
