Hello all. I do hope this is the right forum but for now I shall continue anyway :) whilst hungover round my friends house I used his ps3s streaming facility and my word was I impressed and it was wireless too! Now I want something similar.

I also want a blu ray player should I just buy a ps3 baring in mind I don't want to play games or is there a better solution? The ease of use with the ps3 really did go some way to convincing me but this sort of thing is really out of my area :) if it's worth considering I will be getting surround sound early next year (not one of those highstreet package ones).

Any suggestions would be appreciated, budget is £2-300 or so!

Many thanks

Ok if you just want to play back your standard xvids and blurays then a PS3 is the way to go. Then you'll either have to setup your pc to share the media over the network, or get a DLNA certified NAS and put your media on that.

If you want to playback MKVs and all other weird file types then you'll need to setup your pc to transcode your media for the PS3. A bit more complicated, and it will mean leaving your computer on when you want to watch stuff, as well as have it using up the processor every time you watch something (the point I'm getting at is that I don't see that as particularly efficient way of doing it).

The other option would be one of these small Atom based PCs with a bluray drive. Properly configured it would do the job really well, but it would be more effort.

I think all those options are less than £300.
