In the world of impatient and impulsive buyers, getting first on the market is extremely important.
Gigabyte G1 has been the first card with custom pcb to be available and many people bought it because they had no intention of waiting for other brands, in the only market where there are no release dates. Seriously imagine if Playstation 4 came out in similar fashion (I know it's different, but you get what I mean).

The question is: are they really working on them until the last minute? What stopped Galax or Asus from giving one or two cards to the top reviewers? They just didn't have one ready until now?

Let's say I liked the design of the KFA HoF and was willing to spend 650£ on it, I'll be much happier to wait if there were reviews already out, If I knew It would be worth it.
I believe higher tier cards can't start selling until the manufacturer has enough good chips to use, but they must have a few when they begin the process, why don't they push to get them reviewed?

I really don't get it, but probably don't know enough about this world, so please enlighten me :D

I can't enlighten but I noticed the Zotac Amp Extreme is due tomorrow, That looks tempting, Highest clocks out there, Possibly to be matched by the Kingpin and 8 pack if it appears.

I find that disappointing too, Come on EVGA, As we can see with the clocks on the 980 and Ti Classies it is no longer what it once was, It has been knocked down a peg to make way for the Kingpin, but it's been done for all the wrong reasons.

Kingping, hof cards aren't made in volume, they are sold mostly to clockers trying to get benchmark scores which is a very niche market, you wont see reviews because serious benchers will buy them anyway and then you'll see the scores they get on hwbot or 3dmark

And yes, i agree, theyve basically made the classified brand worthless and slotted kingpin in above it

Guru 3d have a review of the AMP Extreme, and it looks very impressive but it is huge.

I'd imagine it does take a little longer for these cards to be designed and manufactured after the release of the stock models. I suspect where the time really goes is towards trying to balance the stock overclocks to ensure as few returns as possible.

The funny thing is I think the actual gaming difference when you really look at it between the models is so negligible. This merry go round of which card is king now is pretty pointless imo. Ok, the Amp Extreme has the highest stock clocks at the moment, so I get a grand total of 2fps extra on Ultra HD games according to the Guru3d review. Wow.

It's not as if almost all the competing cards with 1280-1290 boost clocks could be manually overclocked by 100 on the core to bridge that huge gap in performance right?

I think when the real world differences are so small, people should pay more attention on aesthetics, acoustics and whether they want a three slot beast or not, rather than which card is king for a week.

if the customer was logical maybe but that isnt happening.:)

there's always going to be a market for fastest, even if its by a small amount

the all copper kingpin looks pretty crazy & i love the all white hofs too
i can geek out to these cards without buying them, maybe if i was super rich i would i duno...

its like them crazy inwin cases too, would i have one probably not but i still think its cool they made them

Quoting myself:

In more than a month - until Logan got his card - Asus did not have ONE of those to send to a reviewer?
I'm aware they count on loyal customers, but they must know there are people like me who value reviews.

90% of people in this relatively niche market buy only one model per generation. The first thing I would do is make sure to have a few cherry picked cards to send around. Afterwards if the manufacturing process will take even two months, at least I'll know that there will be people waiting for it, knowing how good it is.

P.S. Besides the overclock potential, which is extremely similar across all offerings, it's the temp/noise ratio that I research the most.
