my mate has just called me from tenerife, flight to birmingham cancelled but he may get to bristol, would the airline have to pay for him onward travel as his car is at brmingham ?

Has the airline told him to go to Bristol or is that his choice? Not sure how much difference it makes, but it may do...

Pretty sure they won't. My car was at Manchester airport when the Volcano was doing its thing earlier this year. I flew back to B'ham and had to make my own way to Manchester.
