I'd like some assistance in the best way to look for somewhere to live in SW London. I'm in my 1st year at the moment looking to move into the area around Putney, Richmond, Kingston and so on.

Not entirely sure who i'll be with yet as it seems who i thought were my closest friends forgot to include my in their plans which are already sorted. :(

Either way, can someone point me in the right direction? Does it matter if i go on the search for "Student housing" or is "Renting" perfectly fine?

I'm at a bit of a loss. :o

Just thinking about budget...going to be at least 3 of us and we're currently paying £95 a week for Halls. So perhaps looking at 500 a month? Or am i being stupid? The more people involved the better i assume? We'd all have a job anyways..well we'd have to.

Start with going to your student accommodation office, ask for a housing list and websites students use, look at notice boards that advertise for spare rooms.

Yeah def go through the uni,

But read up on legislation such as the deposit protection scheme as this is the sort of stuff your estate agent would normally check up on for you.

I moved into a flat in Putney at the start of this year and there are some good small scale estate agetns about though.

Estate agents charge a fee, going direct to a landlord through uni save you that fee at least, not to mention the Uni have checked out those housing on their list as well.

Okay. Thanks.

Tips for budgeting? I know the area i'd personally like to live in but obviously it depends on others. Best way to formulate how much we could afford? As i said before, we're all paying £95 a week but i'm unsure how loans and things are sorted out for the 2nd and 3rd years...same as the 1st? Or does it change?

I find you'd get more as each year goes on.

Depends on a few things thou, if the house include water, gas, electric, I say £10 a week for bills on top of your rent should be ok, that is house sharing with prob 3/4 people.

i'm at kingston uni - going to start looking when i get back from les arcs in a week and a half :)

keep us posted on how the search goes.
