student loans...

You get it AFTER having enrolled at your university. IE you have to have been at uni and put on the system etc (usually dduring freshers week) before they send out the student loan. It's all written down on the crap they send you.

Be careful. Seriously. My mate managed to blow his student loan in 2 weeks. He lived off 20p noodles for breakfast lunch and dinner for the rest of the year. I really cannot stress if you blow it all you are *********

I blew it all last year, didn't hurt me too much ;) And unless my mum decides to go downmarket on the shopping then I'l still be eating Caviar for breakfast, lunch and tea :p

I register on friday and it should come on monday. The first part is ALL going towards my new rig :D (Already paid rent)

i only applied for mine on august 31'st...all ive got in the post is the art id and online pass thing, when you think ill ge the letter saying how much im getting and when will i actually get it? a laptop cant buy itself :o

See this is the reason everyone comes out of uni with debts twice as high as what they borrowed. Im budgeting £20 a week below what i could spend, within a couple of months i'll have a few hundred quid floating spare to have fun with, and not be worrying about the fact that im living in overdrafts and credit cards. :p

ok, i'm aware it's a slightly different system now, but is it really necessary to have a thread like this every start of term
everyone gets their loan at a different time, based on when your uni processes it, which will be (almost) guaranteed after you register, normally the next/same day, occaisionally routinely upto a week after (if they process them all at once)
if it's any longer than this you need to speak primarily to your university finance department (as to why they've not put it through), then SLC (as to why you've not got it), then maybe your LEA (as to why you've had to speak to them)

Cool, you've sorted your rent, and now used the loan.

How you buying food and drink and anything?

I'm getting paid from work at the end of the month aswell, that should last till Christmas if not, might have to dip into the overdraft. ;)

Meh chill out. Don't like it, sod off. I made a longer post than this, but it would be wasted on you.

lol if you dont like what you read pick a different thread. its nice sometimes to discuss between members how there life, and uni life is turning out, and the processes involved. we dont need people being all blah blah go to the financial department.

does anybody know what hardware i should buy, "Go read a bloody magazine to find out"... yeh this forum would be dead!

You really want to avoid dipping into that. Aside from the 9 grand you'll be required to payback in tuition fees (I will only have 5200 :D (I love wales)), if you use up your entire overdraft remember you're normally required to pay off the overdraft on your student account within a couple of years. So if you have a 2 grand overdraft you have a couple of years to pay that off. Not very nice NOW is it? :p

We'll see how that works out when you get there :p

I think a months full time pay should be enough to cover me until christmas. I don't drink anyway which seems to be where every other students loan/overdraft goes
