Im a student in my last year and have recently been going on some big nights out. Nights such as last night at mission where tidy boys and lisa pin-up were.

Ive always liked trance, dance and hardcore since I was about 13 (then loved rock for a couple of years), but then I went to uni and had to suffer the terrible nights of build me up buttercup, queen and baywatch amongst many others. A few days ago I went to gatecrasher where they had queen on at about 1.30 in the morning, at which point I left in descust. The price to get in after a certain time was £15 aswell (i didnt pay this thankfully) and the dj was a complete joke. I could have done better on virtual dj I think

Why do places think all students love terrible cheesy music? And why dont venues pay a bit of money to get some good djs/rock bands or whatever?

because normally students on a night out are drunk and have no idea what the hell they are listening too.
drunk people listening to cheesy crap means happy drunks. better to have happy drunk students than idiot drunks who are in the wrong frame of mind and start fights.

It depends on what will bring people in, and then stay for a few drinks.

There are loads of cheesy places here in Liverpool, but they're rammed every weekend. Just the way that music tastes of drunk people are like lol.

Correct.

On the note of cheesy music, I was getting the train back to uni today and on the platform across were 4 chav girls with their "music" blurting out of their mobile. Some crappy tune with abit of bass and some high pitched "singing" going with it. Is that the kinda of crap that gets played in clubs etc these days?? They aren't my scene so I don't tend to know whats playing at these places.

slightly bias comment. TBH ive seen more fights at cheesy all you can drink places than at trance nights. Everyone is far more happy at those nights

And where the hell has all the decent R&B nights gone in leeds?

nah, thats the pop dance which is 'scally' and rubbish. Stuff is played more on the lines of this. (but nowhere near as good)

everyone in there was happy, no fights or anything. Just people REALLY enjoying themselves, which is how it should be

mostly ive found that the cheesy music attracts the girls, then the girls attract the men, the men stay for the girls and the girls stay for the music... quite a good business tactic i think

This is something that annoyed me loads too. At Loughborough there isn't that much int eh way of entertainment in town, so the SU has managed to build itself up pretty well to be a sizeable venue to compensate for this.

Unfortunately the three rooms will generally play Cheesy crap, R+B and some generic inoffensive soft rock/older songs or something.

Rarely a sign of anything remotely dance or trance.

It really narked me so much so that I ended up not really bothering in the end unless there was a special occasion and I knew loads of mates were going to be there, and even then I just stayed in the quiet area with the sofas and chatted to people all night.

I think it's because cheese appeals to many more people that might have different music tastes. If you aimed a rock night at students, there might not be enough students to make a lot of money so you might as well make it a general rock night and students that want that will still come anyway.

Sounds loads better......
That's down to your personal taste but what's being played there definately isn't cheesy "Scooter", "Ian Van Dahl" or "Darude Sandstorm" crap.

couldnt have put it better myself

You should have been tucked up anyway ............... you can't afford those sort o' nights on your wage.

Just say NO to drugs too! ;) :D

Even I like Queen .......... .......................................... shut it!

Cheese is awesome when you are drunk. End of.

Just out of interest, which uni do you go to? If you go to somewhere in a small town/city like Loughborough then surely you can't expect a huge variation in nightlife? I'm at Manchester and I don't have that problem at all
