Stupid Money-Senseless Parents

Im 20 and I honestly think the attitude of a lot of younger kids these days is terrible, as well as some parents. By all means treat your children, but make sure they learn respect, that 'no' means NO, and that they need to make their own way in life if they want any kind of self satisfaction.

In all honesty I dont know if I ever want kids because I dont think I could put up with the stuck up parents I would in all probability meet.
*edit* and by 'put up with' I mean deal with, im never one not to voice my opinion. Ive found it helps you find out who your true friends are.

My mums boyfriends daughter asked him for an iPhone for Christmas, which he is trying to buy for her. She is 10. He is 52 and approaching bankruptcy, he is a moron.

In one case i remember a year 9 kid showing me his Nintendo DS, PSPGo, Iphone 3GS (before the 4 came out) and the preorder ticket for his iPad. Sure his parents must be minted, but i still don't see why a child of that age needs those gadgets, let alone should be allowed to bring them into school.

My wife's a teacher at a primary school and she confiscated a kids PSPgo at the beginning of term as it's in the schools "conditions of attendance" that electronic devices bar calculators are not allowed and liable to be confiscated for a term.

He gets it back in a week. He was well chuffed :-)

Parents tried to kick up a fuss and the headteacher told them to do one after producing the letter with the above conditions that had thier sig at the bottom :-)

There's no way a child still in primary school education needs a phone. What do they need it for? They'll have under 10 friends which they see at least 5 days of the week. Want to speak to them? use the landline.

When they hit secondary school and if they're walking to and from that's fine for safety purposes but you could then take it off them once they're back.

If my child wanted to buy it and pay the bills themselves that's fine but that won't be happening till they're around 14-16 anyway or whenever their paper round may be.

All my fathers o/h's daughter wanted to do between the age of 8 and 12 was play bloody games on my phone. Here have a Nintendo DS, not a blackberry/iPhone.

The value of the object is irrelevant to me it's the principle that a young child does not need a mobile phone. Imo of course.

There is no way in hell an 8 year old should have a phone!

If I have children, they wont be getting their own phone until at least secondary school, as theyre walking to and from it by themselves.

Even then, itd be a reluctant decision!
nothing expensive either it will only get lost or stolen

How are kids meant to learn the value of things if they're handed to them on a silver platter?

Then again, isn't society completely screwed because too many people value posessions above everything else, purely because we've been taught and brought up to work like slaves just to afford crap we don't need?

I've always had a problem with this idea that we should hammer into kids that "things" are more valuable than anything else.

But we do live in that society, working hard to buy stuff, works pretty well, so maybe kids should be taught that, screwed up world we live in.
