Hi all

was thinking of getting a dell 2407 WS monitor but wondered what happens to all those games that do not support widescreen resolutions??

I know there are ini. hacks etc but for some games i would be happy to play at 1600x1200 windowed..

Will the panel stratch these 4:3 resolutions to fit the screen.......in which case everything will look fat!!

Some monitors do stretch it, the ones you'd want to look for are ones that can do 1:1 pixel mapping (then they run the game with black borders).I *think* the Dell can do it.

The Dell 2407FPW can do 1:1 pixel mapping with official nVidia drivers and Omega ATI ones. Possibly also through ATI Catalyst Control Centre now.

no most monitors will let you play with black bits and play 1600 x 1200 or whatever. I know for a fact the Dell does. as does my NEC 20WGX2

My Philips can stretch 4:3 to "fullscreen" or stretch vertically but keep the aspect. I can't notice any loss in picture quality in gaming, and I guess it's less of a performance hit than using drivers to scale 4:3 to 16:10
