Ive got a sub and some speakers. The sub has a phono connection (aux) to audio left and right so ive plugged these into the back of the tv left and right. How do I make the sound come out the surround sound when the ntl box is on. (I change the mode on the sub to aux aswell)

I cant see no coaxial input on my tv, xbox of ntl box to use the coaxial out

edit- nuts please move, ive very tired

Sound shouldn't be coming from the rear speakers with ordinary stereo TV if thats what your saying? There may be an upmix feature to do it on the speakers though it's unlikely (and unnescesary). If you mean to no sound comes from anything then firstly make sure the TV phonos are actually outputs, not inputs.

If you want surround sound you'll need a surround sound amplifier. You can connect the NTL box to this and then the speakers to the amp. Without one your just gonna have stereo out from either the TV or the NTL box. If the NTLBox is a digital one I guess it will have an optical or coax sp-dif out that you can use to connect to a suitable AV amp.

My ntl box doesnt seem to have a coaxial plug on it, it has a scart for connecting it to the tv and a scart for vrc. Ive tried connecting this (using an xbox scart transformer) to the back of the sub but that doesnt work.

I got it working at home by connecting it to our dvd player but we dont have one in the house im in. I would have thought connecting the aux on the back of the sub (its a sub/amp in one) to the tv audio out phono ports would have worked but all I hear is crackling. You can change the source on the sub/amp and ive made sure its on aux

Are you sure that the Phono sockets on the TV are outputs?

Does the NTL box not have Phono out?

these things. connect from NTL box to sub as said above. You will only get stereo from that, you need to buy a pro-logic compatible amp to get surround from NTL

On My NTL box there is the following

Antenna in (not used)
RF out (not used)
SPDIF (not used)
test port (not used)
Scart VCR (not used)
Scart TV (connects to scart 1 on tv)
Ethernet port (net)
power (the wall!)

On My TV there is the following

Scart 1 (connects to NTL box)
Scart 2 (connects to Xbox)
Out (phono for audio left, right and a yellow video one)
power (the wall!)

Theres also Optical and a couple others but no coaxial on the tv that are covered by plastic)

I would have thought I just connect the amp/sub to the audio out on the back of the tv by using the phono connection that has one white and red on each end. This doesnt work though

I would bet my left testicle that the phono sockets on the TV are inputs.

theres audio left and right with video on the front of the tv but when i try them i dont even had a crackling noise like from the back

why is there 3 more input on the back of the tv but they are covered by the black panel (or are not there at all) ?

I imagine they are not there at all. The casing for the TV can be used for other models you see.

Are the leads directional, have you tried them round the other way?

I'll still bet those are inputs, if you have an xbox, plug your xbox into those, then you'll know if they are inputs or ouputs.

i'll try that. but what could I do if the xbox picture and audio works regarding the surround sound?

i have tried changing right to left and left to right aswell

The easiest way would be to get a scart to component cable, stick the yellow in the tv and the red and white in the amp.

but then wouldnt the surround sound only be played through the Xbox?

edit -maybe if I unplugged the Xbox audio phonos that go into the scart on the tv and connected the audio phonos left and right that go to the surround??

Confused,

You have an xbox, ntl box and surround sound.

Usually the surround sound will have lots of inputs, so you can connect lots of devices.

You need to connect the xbox and Ntl to the sub (left, right phono's). Then you need to connect the video component to the tv.

Or is this not what you want to do?

Yes, that will give you xbox surround sound.

on the sub is the following
Aux (2 phono)
CD (2 phono)
Coaxial
Optical
5 speaker inputs

I connected the xbox to left and right audio to the sub and then surround works but no video because the split lead is too short.

I then tried removing the scart converter (that converts audio and video to phono) and plugging in the 3 connections to the back of the tv. They do not work but with the converter to scart they do.

All I want to do is plug the audio from sub to the tv phono ports. I think they have mixed up the two when making the tv maybe

At home when I connected the sub/amp up I just connected a coaxial cable to the back of a dvd player and it worked fine (on the tv aswell)

Still dont know how to get surround sound working on the tv
