See this is exactly the stupid misconception people have about Sharia Law and its relation to Islam...of course a lot of Sharia Law is related to Islam, theres no doubting that but this Sharia Law has, as far as im aware absolutely nothing to do with Islam as a whole....its just a made up barbaric law to keep their people in line...which it has achieved so far.

sharia law is sharia law! there is only one einstein. lol

My take on this is that some people take Islam far too literally and there are laws that these people follow to force everyone else to take things as literally as they are.

Therefore it is not the religion itself that is bad, but the way it is interpreted and implemented by a great number of the people who follow it.

Spawn, for example, does not spend his spare time beating his wife for wearing trousers. I doubt he cares what she wears.

So the problem is the way a large amount of people use a religion to impose fanatical and ridiculous ways of life on people too scared and too ignorant to know any better, not Islam itself.

Does that sound about right, Spawn?

Seriously? Are people this goddamned pig-ignorant? It says right there in the article, in your quote, that the woman was punished under Sharia law for wearing trousers under her Islamic clothing - it does not say anywhere that adhering to Sharia law is a requirement if Islam, nor that any actions of the woman contravened Islamic doctrine, nor that she was punished under Islamic law. you are slapping that big brush of generalisation across a subject on which you are completely ignorant, and you seem thrilled about doing so.

People seriously need to learn how to differentiate between Islam and the sociopaths who abuse its message. Islam is not responsible for the atrocities committed by Muslims, just as Christianity was never responsible for the atrocities of Christians.

Once again, Sharia IS Islamic law.

I agree, that Sharia is one aspect of Islam that has been corrupted by the sociopaths that you talk about, but religion is a collection of beliefs that is held by a group of people. If these people believe that Sharia tells them to whip women in the street, then that is their religion. They may be horribly misguided and wrong according to what it says in the Qur'an, but it doesn't matter what is printed in a book. AFAIK, most christians do not believe everything in the Bible, religions have evolved over time. Albeit not always well.

Yep totally and utterly agree with you and its the same thing that ive been arguing about for many yrs but no one really pays any attention. I guess theres far too many Daily Fail idiots in this country now

Personally my wife, if i had one could walk around naked for all i care

...obviously if i feel that shes wearing something too provocative if shes going out then i have every right to tell her but NOT beat her to an inch of her life...that has FA to do with my religion really because im sure plenty of other non muslim guys would probably do the same unless they like their wives/gfs walking around wearing next to nothing when they are out and about.

I did not know that you are a muslim. My guess is, that's the reason you are keen to distance your religion from these barbaric acts - completely understandable.
As I understand it, Sharia comes from more than one source, and is an interpretation, not something that is written literally with a complete set of crimes and punishments. You'd know better than me - perhaps you'd like to do some of this proof showing you're so fond of to convince me to the contrary.

When we left in 1979 my Dad smuggled out around 10 scrapbooks that he had been keeping filled with pictures & newspaper stories from Nigeria which made some interesting reading.
We'd been back home for about a month when after watching the News my Dad got the scrapbooks and started to destroy them.
I was upset because these books were gold dust but my Dad said that we English were far worse.
It's just one of those experiences that will always stay with me and he was right.

I love this country and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else (except Luxor) but we have to get our own house in order before we criticise others.
