Sudden Death of Wireless Connection

I have a Netgear DG834GT wireless router. I normally have this set to channel 6 and have had no problems with it, today however I suddenly lost the connection from my laptop to the router. The laptop then refused to reconnect.

After reboots of both laptop and router I established an intermittent connection witch eventually died completely. I logged onto the router from my PC using a wired connection and changed to channel 11 and everything was fine again. The laptop made a stable wireless connection.

Using Netstumbler I scanned for wireless networks that could be interfering and came up with a list of two others, one on channel 1 and one on channel 3. Both of these have always been there and have never caused problems before.

The only possibilities I can think of are that either channel 6 has died on my router or someone nearby has a wireless video sender that is interfering with channel 6.

Anyone hear have any other ideas what may have happened?

i doubt its this but i've read about MiMo kit that it takes over multiple channels and kills say for example channels 1 and 3 even if theres a router sending out signals on those channels. doubt its that but i could be i guess?

Could be that one of your neighbour has got a new Draft N router as these are notorious for causing issues with 8011g networks.

If the router works ok on channel 11 then just leave it that way or is there a specific reason you need to use channel 6

I had not considered Draft N thanks for that as you may well be right. As for using channel 6 this is necessary to run double speed on this router 108 Mbps rather than 54 Mbps.
