Hi there, I just got the Scythe infinity the other day its got my 4000+ SD running at 3180mhz prime stable.

Thing is its not really doing that good as my old akasa 862 (they cost about £8) had it at 3120mhz anyway.

I realise why though, for some reason after it need about .5 of a volt just for the extra 60mhz...don't think the fan can quite cope with it (Its only a 1200rpm 120mm fan)

I was wondering what a good expensive high cfm (with as low a noise as possible) would be?

I'm not after something stupid like a Delta\Tornado (My days of tolerating a 92mm vantec tornado are well gone, as well as my hearing ;))

Thanks...

So kinda after a 120mm fan with a very high cfm to noise ratio (can cost up to about £20)

Thanx :)

I've already got a good clock with it

3180mhz is pretty darn good for a 4000+ on air, load temps about 46-48c

Thats with my vcore set to 1.45 in the bios, its only reporting 1.4\1.41 in the bios though.

For 3120 I only needed 1.375 set in the bios and that came back as 1.35\1.36.

When I put 1.475 though it, it seems to error out in prime95 within about a half hour or so.

Pretty sure its related to heat as it seems that its whenever it reaches 50c that it does it.

With the Akasa AK-862 I had in it before it would be at about 55-56c under load for 3120mhz, obviously not ideal.

I'm pretty sure its seated well, there's nothing wrong with my temps, I'm just after a recommendation for a 120mm fan to pump some more air through as I think the fan that comes with it is holding it back and more aimed at people who want to keep things very quiet.

Unless you've got some good advice I could try? :)

Thanks, ;)

The Sandiego 4000+ chips from ocuk, all seem to get VERY hot at very low voltage. They clock well high though its just the heat is incredible, given the voltage...

Yea, ive got one (as shown in my signature) and it wont go above 3120 sadly, anything above is patchy.

I've currently got a 120mm YS-TECH, cant find it on their website but it certainly shifts a lot of air, sadly it also makes a fair racket lol

I think the only way you will get what your looking for is if you browse OcUK and take notes on the specs of all the 120mm fans and just compare them.

My core temp idle is 37° and on load is between 45-52°

Thats with a fairly old ThermalRight copper HS and 80mm fan.

Will have a looky on ocuk then I think.

Thanks for the advice matey :)....

hmmmmm....

Just had a look at a few fans on ocuk...

Can't quite decide, the CFM isn't shown for most the 120mm fans that look most appropriate.

I see that YS-TECH one you mention but its not available in a 3 pin version so I can have it adjusted in the bios to only go full speed if the temps get over a certain threshold?

I've got some 3pin - 4pin molex adaptors but I don't think they carry the information to be speed adustable by the system....or do they?

Any suggestions for a 120mm 3pin fan that can pump some high vokume of air through would be great ;) (thanx)

(just please don't recommend a vantec\delta) :D

There was an indepth article in one of the computer mags on fans about a month ago CFM vs DB vs cost etc. for 80 92 and 120mm fans. The nice thing was it was actual performace compared to claimed performance. I'll see if I can find it.

The Zalman 120mm Quiet Fan has a noticeably better cfm/noise ratio than the Scythe fan, and also runs much faster at 12v.

(Ironically I went back to using the Scythe fan on my Ninja simply because unlike you I required very little airflow and the Scythe one will undervolt more.)

Instead of trying to summarise this the artice can be read here :

http://www.custompc.co.uk/custompc/labs/92616/noiseblocker.html

"For this reason, we rounded up a staggering 55 fans, split across the three most common sizes: 80mm, 92mm and 120mm, and scientifically measured each fan's airflow and noise. You can read about how we tested on p86."

It was a very interesting article in the mag as it clearly showed the claimed performce vs actual performance for all 55 fans, particularly when it came to CFM and dB. Strange also the Papst didnt do so well. They have been market leaders for years. Nice thing though is that OCUK stock most of the top fans mentioned in the article.

Anyhoo enjoy the read. ;)
