Hi,

Well he is 21, been driving for 4 years and now he has finished Uni has decided it would be a good idea to get a car. He has £9k (in cash, no finance) to spend on a car for himself. He doesn't want anything mega fast, about 0-60 in 9-10 seconds would do for him.

He doesnt want a supermini, neither does he want a huge saloon. He even said a Mondeo is slightly too big for what he wants. So i guess he is looking at the small family car class.

What do people suggest?

He didn't seem keen when I mentioned about getting a Focus, well a mk1 Focus anyway as I already have one. So I doubt he would go for a Mk1 Focus.

Audi TT?

No he said anything mega fast!...
They have a really nice spec and look very nice..They are very easy to drive because of the low down torque..
But if he wants to be boring then go buy a ****** mk2 focus
!!!

This would mean a late Astra SRi 16v non turbo would be more than quick enough for him, look the same as the Turbo, and also cost several grand less. With the Turbo, you pay more for the performance. He doesnt want the performance so why pay more?

But if he wants to be boring then go buy a ****** mk2 mondeo!!!

Oh do grow up... firstly he has a 9k budget so Mk2 Mondeos are long gone secondly you are talking about Mk4 Astras! not a world away really :p

What is it with you on this forum?...Ive noticed on other threads how you come out with really sarcastic comments!..think its you who needs to grow up!!! (no doubt you will come back with some witty reply  )

Golf he liked, but thought it was a bit boring.

Audi TT, He thinks they are for hairdressers.

Astra mk4 sri turbo, Like Fox said, he don't need the extra power so would be lost on him.

What did you expect when you replied with:

I mean seriously, if thats not an open invitation for a sarcastic comment I really don't know what is. If people didn't persist in posting rubbish like that which they KNOW winds me up, then I'd have no need to be making sarcastic retorts back again.

You started it :p

You've still not answered my question of what the Turbo would offer him that an SRi 2.2 16v or 1.8 16v wouldnt, given he only wants 0-60 in about 9-10 seconds.

I did actually edit it to mk2 focus "Before" you replied...

No idea, I'd certainly want something a bit quicker but thats all the info we've got to go on, now, I don't think your suggestion of Astra is all that bad - SRi's are decent, but he could get away with the non Turbo, its still pretty quick :)

Perhaps he cannot justify the extra running costs, I dunno. All we know about him is whats posted, so thats what we must use to recommend stuff.
