I don't get it either but trust me it is all he wants. Funny thing is he is really into his motorsport and cars, just not bothered about a faster car at all on the road. He has been contempt driving a 1.0 Yaris and 1.1 206 since passing and doesn't mind them too much.

He also likes the Megane after going round the Nurburgring in it, what do people think to them?

I really like them actually. The steering is a little numb but apart from that they're great

The Citroen C4 isn't a bad car either

I know what you mean, sometimes its hard to accept other people think differently - its something we are guilty of, especially myself - but not everyone gets excited about the same stuff. I cannot comprehend ever spending £9k on a regular, run of the mill, boring slow car but this guy clearly can - his priorities are different, we should recommend with this in mind rather than assume he has similar priorities to our own :)

The Fabia vRS is Group 8 - which equates to £350 for me. I paid £50 less a year for a Group 5 VW Bora. Unless the Furby has suddenly become a TWOC magnet he'll pay similar insurance for anything else around the same grouping. They hold their value well - early cars which are are nearly three years old are fetching round £8.5k which is a retained value of over 66%!

Hmm, he will have to look round for quotes for the vRS i think then. See if he can get lower, part of the problem is that he has 0 NCB as he has always driven my mums car.

It is however Mondeo sized. Guess it depends on whether he wanted a smaller car for the image or perceived ease of parking.

Edit: the above is more than 4 yrs old :o. Should be able to get a younger 318coupe for the same price easily.

He has a hatred for BMW, also he doesn't want to go larger anyways, so it is safe to say a 3 series isnt on his list. :p
 
I also thought having the extra power under the bonnet when needed would be a good idea, but anyway, the Vrs sounds good :)

I've had one for a year, having "downgraded" from a VW Bora. My only regret has been losing the blue dash lighting! The Fabia vRS is a superb all rounder and I can't think of anything that gets close for the money. It's fast - will match most hot hatches and is cheaper to insure and run than most. It grips well round the corners and feels planted like a bigger car. Handling isn't as fun as something flimsy and french like a Clio due to the large lump of iron under the bonnet but it's enjoyable to throw around. I find the suspension is a good compromise between acceptable comfort and fun cornering. The Fabia is big for a supermini - not much smaller than a Golf Mk4 and it mainly loses out in bootspace. It's well made and a strong car.

Only real competition comes from within the Volkswagen empire - the SEAT Ibiza FR has a terrible ride and crummy interior and the Polo GT is mega-overpriced. There's a similar version of the new Grande Punto and the 206 is only 110bhp, overpriced and rather tinny.

The vRS is faster than the headline 0-60 figures suggest - the torque is immense. Skoda figure the cars with a representative load (ie two burly blokes and some luggage) which doesn't help. I'd got used to the grunt until I got a 1.2 loaner when mine was in for a service last week - good god it was slooooow.
