I'm close to filling my old Samsung Spinpoint 200GB and I'm conscious of the fact that it's pretty old for a HDD. A bad sector popped up recently, so it may be on the way out. 500GB HDD are so cheap that I may as well get one, clone my current HDD to it with Acronis and keep the 200GB as a video store with space for some images of my system partition. Maybe put the swapfile on it too, to have it on a separate drive.

But...which one? I was going to get a 500GB F3 today, but they're out of stock here. So I'll use the time to ask for suggestions. I have no brand loyalty - I'm just looking for a quiet drive that will last, like the Spinpoint I'm using now.

Western Digital Caviar Black is probably next best, followed by the F1 and the seagate which are about equal. Thing is the actual differences are minute tbh

I'm considering changing my order of a Samsung F3 500GB due to it being out of stock. Would it be worth spending the extra money for the Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB with the 32MB cache? Also why is the 'RAID' version more expensive, it seems the same.. with less cache and less space.

Thanks
