I'm looking again as the A3 is now topping 200K and getting somewhat tired, its also a bit on the small side for getting our daughter in and out the back, not able to tow any reasonable load etc etc.

So im after suggestions, ideally i want a Discovery 3 - simply superb vehicle but the other half is anti it on running costs and purchase cost so i might have to reconsider.

Budget is £10,000
Ideally Diesel, good economy would be nice (the more the better!).
4x4, Estate or hatchback, NO saloons.
Must be safe, comfortable and spacious.

My daily use is a 50 mile commute each way, 35 of which is motorway/large A road and the remaining 15 is windey, slippery, country lanes. Weekend use is family dutys or occasional towing.

If you want a Discovery 3, get one. They are absolutely fantastic at what they do. ISTR you are a bit of a Landrover Enthusiast, yes?

The Disco 3 is right for you.

I am indeed a LR enthusiast but im not single and i dont get to make decisions without thinking these days.

The disco would eb great for family, holidays, towing and the winter commute - BUT its considerably more than 10K to purchase and 30mpg if you are lucky isnt a great selling point on top of £400 VED when doing 100+ miles a day :(

i was going to say, you'd struggle to get a disco 3 for £10k :p

£18K is more realistic, however if im not going to have my ideal car im not going to stretch either!

BMW 3 and 5 series touring are both possibles, as is the Audi A4 - i'll look into the V70 :)

I know my Landrovers too well for that Fox, unfortunately like all LR's the D3 is plagued by a host of expensive problems and i wouldnt buy one that was out of warranty, i'd want 6 months to get it all sorted by LR so i could enjoy the car as it should have been made in the first place!
