Hi peeps,

I'm at work and have a graphics card out of one of our PCs which has failed due to a dead cooling fan. The card appears to be a Gainward Ti4200 64MB Power Pack AGP.

We need to replace the card with something of equivalent spec but I'm really not up to speed with modern graphics cards! I'm wondering what would be a suitable replacement? I assume the card we have here is a few years old now so the modern budget gfx cards would be sufficient? The PC runs a lot of graphical processes so the card needs to have a bit of ooomph, but shouldn't be too expensive. There are 3 of these PCs in total so we need to try and keep the specs as similar as possible, so the new card would ideally be able to use the same driver as the old one.

What do you suggest?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

GFX Card technology has changed so much in the last few years it would be hard to recommend an equivalent card, most of today's budget cards would match its power though it might be easier if you posted a budget and we could get you the best card for that price!

Hi Andy

Something like a 7600 GS or 6600/6800 would be an equivalent or better DX9 NVidia card. You could make do with a 7300 GT GDDR3 as well.

ATi, 9800 Pro upwards, including X800 series and x1650XT upwards.

See the AGP Buyers guide sticky, as the Ti4200 is in the list

I have a 6800 GS/GT for sale (see sig for link) which would fit the bill if you're interested.

good luck with your search.
