**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Yet more signs that Sven, is a complete and utter moron. Yes he's a semi decent big name who might bring people into the club, but then again, they've got millions/billions and can afford players who make the club win which will bring people in. Lets be honest, most people see Campbell as a washed up twit who freaked out when things got tough, not to mention a mercenary.

He's been going downhill for 4 years already, the rate at which he is getting worse is speeding up and he was largely a joke towards the end of last season. Lower league he might have another year, possibly 2, but a 5 year contract on what I'm sure are absurd wages.

When he's riding the bench and getting 30-40k a week(possibly more) he's not going to be bringing people in to watch the club, utter insanity offering a 5 year contract.

If you can afford it, you pay it. And lets be fair, it's done the main job; Kept the clubs name in the press. Also, in the lower leagues I can see him being a great player, for atleast 2 more seasons.

They could afford a lot more aswell, doesn't mean its value for money. Not quite sure why people just assume football clubs are playtoys for the rich, generally rich people get rich by being penny pinchers.

Yes it got their name in the press, so would have signing the best striker from the league above, or hiring a new groundskeeper. Sol Campbell isn't going to drag their attendances up to 20.5k, and after two years they'll then be spunking 2-3mil a year for him to sit on the bench.

Frankly he's still fairly fast, he's still a huge dude, its the mistakes he makes and the stupidly bad decision making thats become a huge part of his game, frankly that will cost you at any level. Older players that are still good but lose their speed do well in lower leagues, lazy players who haven't been bothered to play properly for 4 years, don't often do that well. Especially one who has a contract and doesn't have to fight for a new one ever again.

THing is, sure he'll be fine, but in the same way had Keown gone to Torquay, no one is going to go see them play just to get a glipse of the amazing Sol Campbell. Maradonna, Gazza, Messi, Zidane, Henry, sure, Campbell, no. I'm sure he'll do perfectly fine, its the club with ridiculous resources thats already winning easily. The thing is they could get a 2k a week defender who'd be perfectly fine to get them a promotion this year, so why pay someone 20-30times as much to do the same job with no benefits? They could buy in 20 youngsters for the same cost all with the potential to still be with the team in 3 years in a much higher league. Its just what Sven does, buys the biggest and most expensive names the club can possibly get, sense be damned, and thinks it will work. His whole career has been spent simply getting a list of the best players who are willing to sign for the club, and signing all of them.

Chimbonda off to Blackburn for £2m.

lol, they'll probo play him at left back considering thats the 3rd right back they've bought and Chimbonda played left back at Sunderland and I think sometiems for Spurs. Which almost certainly means Warnock is off, replacing Warnock with Chimbonda is a incredibly stupid thing to do as Blackburn were going to struggle this year as it was, losing their best defender to put in a horrifically bad and mistake prone defender on his weak side, just makes me think they'll be deeper in the relegation fight this year.

The most shocking rumour to do the rounds today is someone suggesting Glen Johnson is on............... £139k a week. If true, Benitez should be hung drawn and quartered.

Even if not true, the massive negotiating power english players have with possible 6+5 rules coming in means they will be bleeding clubs dry as theres only a handful of english players who would walk into a title competing side as it is. The rule, without a wage cap, is going to ruin the league to be honest.

Another big name at Sunderland, seventeen letters that one.

:D :p :D

Steven Taylor leaving Newcastle ?

Sky sports reporting that clubs are after him and he's refusing to comment.

I haven't got a clue at the moment to be honest.

There were reports last week the he was going to Everton but nothing happened.

He's said he wants to stay but on the other hand he's one of our most saleable assets.

Indeed, you've not really bought any replacements in either have you ?

I imagine there would be a fair few clubs willing to take him, wouldn't surprise me if he left.

Rafa's let Nemeth go on a season long loan. To be honest the fact that I was relying on him as backup is bad enough, but letting him go seems suicidal if we have a couple of injuries.

For that matter Leto had a good game last night...I'm becoming less and less happy with how Rafa deals with young players. He's a great tactitian, but is by and large clueless when bringing youngsters through.

Another stupid move, We (Liverpool) need all the players we can at the moment, He would have chances to play for us if our injuries increase or Torres gets injured or even if Vornin (not that he is brill but still) gets injured.

Nemeth apprantly did well in our pre-season too so would have been good to see him have a game or two in the PL

That now only leaves us with Ngog who has had experince with first team players grrr >.<

Is it not possible they've included call back clauses so they are getting first team experience but can be recalled in case the team takes injuries? IN which case it would seem sensible as Liverpools back up upfront at least, is fairly inexperienced, should the need to play properly this year if say Torres and Voronin get injured, isn't it better they have a couple months under their belt, than none?

Personally I'm rather irked at Wengers talking about Gallas this morning, seems to be taking credit for Gallas improved form and talking about how only NOW he's a big influence on the team. Seems to be suggesting he was worse before hand and wasn't influencial so his decision to drop him helped the team loads. Considering loads of players said he is and always was a huge leader, considering it was his "outburst" that made Wenger make changes finally which turned the team around, and considering he's always been an excellent leader and was just as good before the outburst. Just seems like he's trying to take credit for his improved form, when frankly Gallas has been performing at his peak for over 2 years now.
