In what world are City a bigger club than Arsenal? :p

Spending power, potential, and success last season?

Doesn't mean it's right, if Arsenal were to offer an under contract player over double the contract his club had offered him then it would be just as scummy.

I didn't say it was right. I would rather Barca and Chelsea weren't stealing young stars from Leeds, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Spurs did very well out of Leeds' relegation and Villa only managed to pick up Delph because Leeds were in League 1 and couldn't offer high level football and the wages that go with it.

In true scummy fashion?

Premier League clubs do that to other clubs all the time, just because it has happened to your Premier League team by a bigger club, don't get all antsy.

do you watch football??? City are not bigger than Arsenal, City ain't a bigger club than Aston Villa.

I never said City were a bigger club than Aston Villa, you completely missed my point there. Not only that, but as I explained above, Arsenal are going backwards, unlike City, and Arsenal aren't winning anything, unlike City, and Arsenal don't have anything like the spending power of City.

It is unfortunate for Arsenal fans, but you're being left behind.

In the long term the big three are manyoo, Chelsea and City. Liverpool and Arsenal with an outside shout of Spurs if they spend cash, will be fighting for fourth.

Dont you know? They're MASSIVE :p

The only reason people are talking about City lately is because of their money, not their achievements on the pitch. Unlike City we were actually in contention for the league title for the majority of the season, we were in a cup final too and unlike City we were also in the Champions League last season.

Arsenal are a much, much bigger club than Man City, rich owners or not, winning the F.A Cup and having a lot of money doesn't make you a big club.

In all seriousness no way are City a bigger club than Arsenal, Juventus have been under-par for years now because of their very recent success does that mean City are bigger than them as well? :o

Being left behind? We had a chance to win the league, we were in amongst it even when it all went pear shaped we could still have won the title, it went down to the last few weeks.

Remember when people were writing Arsenal off and saying Chelsea were more likely to win it now? Well at that time both Arsenal and Chelsea had exactly the same amount of points and if I'm not mistaken Arsenal actually had a better goal difference and that was with the same amount of games played. We played Chmapions League football, we were in the league title race until the final few weeks of the season, we were in a cup final and we did okay in the other domestic cups. This is with a squad that hasn't had significant new arrivals for a number of years, and a team that had much worse injury troubles than the likes of City.

That is also Questionable.

Rio getting older
Scholes retired
VDS Retired
Giggs To Retire Soon

****E central midfield of Anderson, Fletcher, Carrick.
Good wingers but not one of them world class, Ashley young for 20 million, i think he will become one of your best wingers.

Strike Force = Sorted.

you need to heavily strengthen your defensive/CM options in the next season or two if you want to keep up there in the future

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see manyoo drop down the table, but they have a history of maintaining success whichever players they have.

Arsenal do not.

City have the potential.

In reality City aren't that big of a club yet, but let's be honest, the way football is going/has already gone, the biggest club are basically the ones with the most money, let's not kid ourselves, money is football, nothing matters in football apart from money, it decides everything every day.

Looking at the age of the majority of Arsenal's players they also have potential though. And having potential and having one season where you finally lived up to your expectations does not make a big club.

Really?

Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Jones, our defence there is sorted for potentially the next 10 years

Agree with the midfield, disagree with the wingers though again with Nani, Valencia and Young we're sorted in that area of the pitch as well

Exactly.

They're in the CL this season and this is where they'll start attracting the true top-level players.

Once they're there they'll be very difficult to topple.

When was the last time Arsenal lived up to their supporter's expectations? ;)

If Nasri goes to City he will, in my opinion, stand more chance of winning things, undoubtably earn more cash, strengthen his new club and weaken his old one. I have utmost respect for Wenger for finding gems, but will he find one to possibly replace Nasri? Possibly replace Fabregas? Right from the get go at the start of the season? Especially when the other, freer spending clubs are all in for the same calibre of player and they can see Arsenal selling their better players...

Looks like Taarabt wont be in the premiership next season, PSG have just bid £14m for him. There goes DM's argument of a few weeks back :o

Arsenal have been doing about as expected for the last few years (even exceeding expectation in 07-08 imo), we can't truly be expected to compete with some of the squads around us recently, with our free transfers, obscure buys, ridiculous lack of experience and general lack of anything that costs any kind of decent money. It hurts to admit but we can't be expected to finish higher than 2nd or 3rd as over a season a bigger and richer squad should always come through. That doesn't mean we can't win the league, it just means it shouldn't be expected of us

Those are fair comments but I would say even though we haven't had success in terms of trophies we can still attract players on our reputation alone, and not on the sole promise of massive amounts of money. Arsenal hasn't lived up to our expectations over the past few years, we came within 90 minutes of finally adding a trophy after such a long wait and the players ballsed it up, not much else that can be said there unfortunately.

But I still disagree with you that City are a bigger club than Arsenal. Maybe in a few years we'll see, but until they win the league, and have the success that Arsenal have had in the past, and are also in the Champions League consistently they aren't a bigger club. :p

For all the duds we have in the team, the likes of Diaby, Denilson, Rosicky, Squillaci, Almunia we have still managed to be in the top four every season, and playing top level European football every season. Where were City? Oh yeah waiting for a sugar daddy. ;)

That's a realistic expectation though, fans aren't often known for their grasp of realism :D
