Arsenal are ready to make a £20m move for Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing. Full story: Sunday Mirror

Wow if Fab goes for £35m then we are getting screwed.

That would be one in the eye for those arsenal fans over the past several weeks who have been slating Liverpool for chasing Downing :D

Ordinarily I would LOL at the thought of someone buying Downing for £20 million but the last time I did that was when Spurs bid £20 odd million for Carroll then we came over the top with £35 million. Can see us doing the same again :(

We had this discussion earlier about Downing IIRC? Fans' player of the year, bought recently for a lot, played very well last year, 20m isn't as obscene as everyone seems to think, especially comparing him to say, Henderson.

Unfortunately watching him at Boro for all those seasons has clouded my judgement. I just hope he's not being bought to play on the wing.

20m is obscene Downing was the best of a very poor bunch, he wasn't SPECIAL by any means last season.

Out of interest, what do the Arsenal fans think about Wenger these days?

I'm pretty surprised by how many of their players are being linked away as well, and there's not much talk of them bringing anyone earth shattering in. This isn't meant as a wind up question - I've just seen Wenger looking more and more frustrated in recent years (water bottle incident, post match interviews), and not in a positive way. I used to really enjoy watching Arsenal, but now I find their pronounced lack of cutting edge a bit of a turnoff and usually only catch highlights or their CL matches - so I can only imagine the frustration of Arsenal fans.

Do you guys think a change in management would refresh the team?

Nobody earth shattering!?! He is looking at bringing in the UZBEKISTAN captain FFS.

If that rumour has any truth to it the guy is off his nut and simply being perverse and obtuse in the way he is running the side now.
It needs some steel, it needs a couple of proper proven big time goal scorers and it needs two solid center halfs and a decent goal keeper.
He has done nothing to replace the experience he lost when Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira, Pires Ljunberg, and the mad German goal keeper left.
Its not as if he hasnt had or doesnt have the money, he has.

I think Arsenal are going to be in a lot of trouble this season, they could quite easily lose CL football unless they get quite a lot of decent players in.

Been a nothing player all his career for me, if he was a right footer he would never get a game, and certainly not be mentioned in the same sentence as "twenty million pounds".
