I know it sounds like your typical rumour but I do trust the people involved. I can't see Arsenal going for both Rooney and Higuain. Given the choice I'd rather leave Rooney's wages to someone else.

We'll have to wait and see but I very much doubt it especially as we're on the brink of signing Higuain.

sorry to bring the thread down to Championship level:p, but Brighton have given a trial to Nicky Shorey. After Wayne Bridge leaving, I am very happy with that, not a bad replacement at this level at all!

I know without having any interest in the club whatsoever that if Arsenal have more than one transfer targets they'll be working on deals for them simultaneously

Of course they will but what i was trying to say is that i want us to tie up these deals as soon as possible...get these players in, go on our pre season tour so that the team can gel together asap. Rather than waiting till the last day then spending the rest of the season trying to gel together as a whole.

That was my point im trying to make or was trying to make.

Read a rumour this morning that Ronaldo is on his way to Manchester to talk to Utd about a potential transfer...but according to SSN hes in Bali at the moment:p...gotta love these rumours:o

I think that story is from El Pais in Spain but as far as I know the El Pais story is about him signing a pre-contract with us in 2015 or something, so...

I hope these Alcantara rumours aren't just United speccing the upholstery to be used in a new fleet of BMWs. I would prefer Dakota leather if that was the case :(

To a bad replacement! Any idea who the new manager is going to be yet??

If the Moaninho wants to get rid of Mata, id gladly take him at Arsenal...still rueing the day we missed out on him :(

I don't believe for a second that Maureen has considered selling Mata, he's one of the best players in the league, if not the best, and easily my favourite to watch. He's just sublime. Worth every penny as much as Bale.

Hoping we seal up Thiago and Strootman soon.

And if I had my way we'd get rid of Rooney, Welbeck and Young. I don't think we should be looking to sell Nani when we have Welbeck and Young who are far, far less productive and could probably get more for Welbeck considering he clearly gives a damn good lip service behind Carrington.

It's quite funny watching Arsenal fans discuss transfers.
I would like Fellaini, but he wants £100k a week wages, with his contract it could cost up to £50m (after £22m fee.) Guess what? That's what good players cost. If you want to compete then you have to pony up the cash. Saying a deal is £50m is very misleading too, because that's a 5 year contract spent over 5 years, not in one summer, so it's actually £22m up-front with a further £5m broken down over 12 months and an undisclosed signing fee. Seeing it as one lump sum is a silly way of seeing things.

Another is that you would rather have Higuain over Rooney. Really? I'm a huge critic of Rooney and a Man Utd fan and I'd still rather have Rooney over Higuain. Yes Rooney costs more, but he'll bring in considerably more in marketing, shirt sales etc. Rooney is a huge world star in that regard, Higuain isn't. Rooney will get you goals and a change of scenery might be what he needs.

You talk like you can't afford him, you can. You can afford both. Comfortably. Arsenal charge a fortune for tickets, they're a world renowned club with huge revenue. You can continue to buy the likes of Gervinho, Giroud, Monreal and playing the likes of Ramsey, Rosicky, Sagna, Diaby etc. but where is that going to get you? They're simply not world beaters. How many major clubs would sign those and play them? If you have aspirations to be a serious club again then you're simply going to have to spend bigger and buy better. Simply signing Higuain is not going to be enough for you. Rooney would be a better signing for all that he offers you, both on and off the pitch, but really, you should be looking to sign both because whilst I actually like Giroud, he shouldn't be your first port of call as a striker at a club with the fantastic stature of Arsenal.

To look back a decade and see the likes of Vieira, Pires, Overmars, Henry, even Wiltord, and then now? Cazorla and Wilshere (if he can stay fit) are two talented players (though only Wilshere will bring in major revenue from marketing and merchandise) but you don't really have anyone else? Walcott? Ultimately you should be battling for the title, not just battling for 4th place. You're better than that. Don't go the way of the likes of Fiorentina and Valencia.

As the old adage goes, buy cheap, buy twice.

Yeah as Yas said, its oscar garcia. Well chuffed with that, as he was linked with quite a few bigger clubs, and his teams play great football from what i have seen. It was important that we bought in someone who would continue in the same way as Gus, and it seems that we have done that.

On the topic of Man Utd signings, I very much want Thiago. Still remember the screamer from the Paul Scholes testimonial/first retirement game. A player who takes the ball in under pressure and deals with it rather than just simply passing it straight back like Cleverley or Rooney. We only have Kagawa who does this.

Also, from what I've seen of Strootman, I don't want him. He's akin to a lumbering fool who doesn't get about well. We can't have two midfielders sitting deep, of which Carrick would be the other, and if I had to choose, I'm not going to believe dropping our player of the year from last year is the way to go. He's not as good as a Javi Martinez, probably the most accurate comparison I can think of, and he plays so deep at Bayern that the rest of the midfield play high, but they're so dynamic and willing to run with the ball and most importantly, good at keeping possession, that they're able to do that.
We constantly stick the ball in the air and don't dribble past people inside, bar Kagawa, that that set up wouldn't work. I just think it's more money than we should be spending on a player we don't need and who, technically at least, really isn't that much of a player. The fact we knocked him back at a fraction of the cost a couple of years back also adds to that.

I'm still more concerned about left-back. Evra is a liability and cost us so many goals last season it was a joke. Plus he's still unable to cross the ball in the air! At his age we should be looking to sell to Monaco and buy someone else.

Oh, Liverpool might lose Mkhitaryan, since the Shakhtar ceo confirmed that Borussia matched their 30m € request and they are ready to sell

"Borussia offered $30 million for the midfielder. I contacted Mkhitaryan’s agent yesterday." Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin

Would explain why no one has been able to find him in Donetsk... he's in bloody Dortmund!

On the other hand if Carrick were to get injured we're screwed and not just screwed we're royally screwed

I've never seen Strootman play and I know I've taken plenty of shots at him being labelled the Dutch Gareth Barry but someone to slot in and play when Carrick needs a rest and not totally balls up the entire starting XI is required. Too many times last season without Carrick in midfield we'd have no control in a game, we'd then have to bring him on with 30 minutes to go just to calm everything down

Thiago and a Carrick backup would represent a very good summer
