I'm not sure beating city was such a great thing for Arsenal, it backs up the feeling that we have a good enough team already.

I don't think we have a bad starting eleven but what's sitting on the bench doesn't give us much options, especially when half of them are injured 60% of the season.

Hopefully we are to that team soon

At least he is trying to sign players that are:

A. International class.
B. Plays for a top club
C. Has tons of experience and has WON trophies.
D. Other top teams want.
E. Over 20!

That can only be a good thing.

If we dont get Suarez, are there any strikers worth buying? We need one.

The problem is he isnt trying hard enough, he still thinks we can sign Suarez:(.

The only striker that was available was Higuain, he was the only one that i thought would be a great signing for Arsenal but seems like we put all our eggs in one basket as Robbo posted an article a page or so back.
But because of our stupid chase of Suarez, Napoli nabbed him.

Yep as much as i enjoyed us beating City, tbf they really never got out of first gear but beating them quite comprehensively score wise....is not exactly good as Wenger probably thinks our squad is up there with the best when it is isnt. I said a page back that looking at our squad on Arsenal.com, we are looking weak subs wise and that needs to be sorted asap with better or decent players being brought it.

Quotes from Cavani:-

Edinson Cavani has accused *Liverpool of breaking a promise to Luis Suarez that they would allow the Uruguayan striker to join a club in the Champions League.

Suarez has insisted he was given assurances by Brendan Rodgers that he could leave Anfield to play in *Europe’s top club competition – after being shocked by the news that a £40,000,001 bid from Arsenal had not triggered a buy-out clause.

And Cavani, the international strike-partner of Suarez, who moved from Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain for £55m, says his friend has been TOO loyal to Liverpool.

Canavi said: “The Liverpool coach can talk about loyalty and disrespect, but maybe he needs to look up what it means.

“Luis had the chance last year to join a big club like Juventus, who went on to win the league in Italy.

“But, instead, he chose to stay and fight with Liverpool. Now, that’s what you call loyalty.

“I’ve known about his agreement with Liverpool and understood that he would be leaving, if they were not playing in the Champions League.”

Realistically Arsenal's bench will be (NB based on expectation not my first choice XI):

Fabianksi - not good enough
Monreal - good player
Vermaelen - bit shaky at times last season but definitely good enough
Ramsey - seems to be recapturing his form this year, I was impressed with him in the Emirates Cup
Rosicky - looked good toward the end of last season, and what really surprises me is his turn of pace at times, I think he is a perfectly adequate backup to Wilshere in terms of someone who can run progressively with the ball and pick out a pass
Oxlade-Chamberlain - raw talent, capable of coming on the change a game
Bendtner - decent link up player but his finishing isn't good enough.

With Vermaelen being injured presumably it will be Jenkinson on the bench which isn't ideal in terms of cover at CB - interestingly Wenger tried Sagna there the other day.

So overall I don't think Arsenal's bench is the that bad with the exception of:
-Backup keeper is rubbish
-Not enough goal threat
-Possibly a bit light in terms of cover at CB while Vermaelen is injured

'Fixing' that bench isn't too hard/expensive IMO, basically buy a decent CB (Williams or whatever) and a striker (e.g. Bent), keeper issue not so critical. Total cost about £15m based on those examples which can be covered by the reduced wage bill. Of course, the preference would have been to buy a top striker (Falcao/Cavani/Llorente/Higuain/Rooney/Villa etc) and drop Giroud to the bench.

Obviously the bench won't hold a candle to moneybags clubs like Chelsea/MC but that is a given as they can just spend £20m on reserve players.

Didn't realise old edison took part in the meetings between Suarez and Rodgers

No promises are required to be fulfilled when you go and bite someone, probably did that to try and get out

Fabianski was pretty good last season, pretty sure if it was Szcesney against Bayern in the 2nd round, Arsenal would have got properly owned at the Allianz Arena. Wasn't it after Szcesney got replaced by Fabianski, Arsenal went on their longest unbeaten run last PL season.

Apparently Spurs want to sell Defoe. Again. Honestly I'm beginning to think that he slept with levy's sister or something. He's been great for Spurs any time he's played and has chipped in with goals every season yet every transfer window there's some rumour that he's available. Would be better getting shot of Adebayor than Defoe IMO!

It still hurts a little to know we never got to see Berbatov and Dembele together at Fulham :(

I'd be quite happy to see Defoe leave (along with Ade) though we would need to buy 2 strikers to replace them.... anyone would do tbh, couldn't do much worse! Pains me to think of the wages we are wasting paying Ade
I'm stil raging at how transparently conniving RM are.
They start with the "you are are the one... We will pay anything to get you...£100m is not too much".
Then they try and aggitate the player further with "RM only come calling once. This will be your only chance to join us".
The final swing is "gadzooks! We can't afford you, we would love you to come but our bank balance says no. If only there was a way that you could influence your selling price and reduce it somehow..."

It is such an obvious manipulation and transfer formula. Why can't anyone stop it! ROAR.

Also how can players not see how shallow it all is and that they will be tossed aside in super fast time in a sort of easy-come,easy-go way?
Shhhh, you aren't allowed to say anything against Real Madrid in here :o;)

The biggest problem with Defoe is that he is so selfish and at times tries to shoot through 4 players instead of playing an easy ball to a colleague. Yes he can be clinical in front of goal, however if he is having an off day (or half season as showed last year) then he doesn't offer anything else to the team, at least Ade can hold the ball up and has one of the best first touches in the league.

Shame Ade is such a lazy ******* 90% of the time :(

One of the biggest misconceptions of Defoe is he's 'clinical'. He is far from clinical, he just hits the ball as hard as he can and hardly ever just places the ball. This leads to his typical hot or cold spells, he'll score 9 goals in 4 games and then go 6 months without a goal. Add the fact he's as thick as pig **** and still does not understand the offside rule, thus giving away a dozen free kicks every game as our attacks fizzle out and we give possession away.

Add in Adebarndoor and his lazy, languid style and we have the most frustrating strike pairing ever to grace WHL. On their day could score a hat-trick against anyone in the Prem.... then nothing for 3 months

Looking at the papers today, we seem to be linked with every man and his dog, including Suarez

Candidates now include a renewed interest for Tom Ince, Eriksen (again) & Alderweireld from Ajax and then the continued Willian talk. Has the Capoue deal been completed yet? The last I heard from on here was that he was having his medical Friday evening.

I can't see much more happening for us in the remainder of the window, as much as I feel we still need to sort out the defence.

Effectively, you are once again trying to sign every player that Liverpool might want.

If you pinch Alderwield from us, having done the same with Gylfi last year, I'll be properly angry ;)

It has been one of the stranger transfer windows, loads of talk of the big players moving whilst behind the scenes, loads of other players moving instead (well unless you're a Utd fan :p - only joking)

I'll be glad to see the back of this window tbh and just get on with the football, with or without Bale.
