I don't take it as that, I take it as a jovial 'Well he's as good as Gareth Barry at least!' poking fun that Barry gets into the City line up.

Most United fans want to spin anything any way they can though, the turn from most from gagging for Strootman to now not is quite funny.

He's a player that's been capped 18 times at senior level for Holland, amongst other things. It's a wonder he's been at PSV for two seasons.

Based on his credentials and the praise and responsibility given to him for club and country I'm not sure how people can get so caught up on a quote that's more than likely out of context about Gareth frikking Barry.

I guess he just isn't exotic enough.

Personally (after seeing very little of him admittedly), he is the exact type player Utd need, if it is for £17m~ he isn't expensive at all (given his age), he is highly thought of club and internationally already and actually given the flair upfront, I don't see why Carrick and Strootman cant play together .... admittedly this would put more pressure on the wide players in a 4-4-2 to perform, or getting the squad more used to 4 -3 -3 (or some variant of this)

In the sense of squad numbers, it also means we have got a midfielder in to replace Scholes straight away which is a positive sign and if Kagawa and maybe one or two of the youngsters step up (as they seem to be ready to do) to fill in with sub & cup apps I think Utd could get rid of Anderson too at the very least (edit that reads back a little misleading - I hope Kagawa to be a major part of the 1st team, hopefully playing behind RvP in his best position adding flair /creativity upfront , and with youngsters filling in to give Carrick + Strootman a rest in the less important games)

A very early signing of a young but experienced international is always a positive imo (ignoring the likes of Kleberson admittedly lol)

I dont which is why I'm not really arsed, only thing I know Meulensteen for is being a huge transfer muppet and always talking to the press about potential targets.

I always got the impression these were planned "leaks", if they were such a massive thing internally I think it would have come out before now.

Real Madrid offer £60m for Bale:

REAL MADRID are confident they will win the battle for Gareth Bale – and have set a June 15 deadline for the deal to be done with Tottenham.

The Spanish giants raised the stakes by increasing their offer for the double Player of the Year to £60m.

Madrid president Florentino Perez is desperate to land a big-name signing this summer after missing out on Brazilian sensation Neymar to arch rivals Barcelona.

Real have been encouraged by the fact Bale has not signed a new contract with Spurs, despite the Londoners promising a huge wage hike to £130,000 a week

Can see why he would go, spurs can't invest maybe to the level of ambition he seeks cause whilst spurs are getting better each year they won't win league yet, could play with far better players but still la liga is always just a 2 horse race so won't be as exciting for him maybe

Arsene wanting Nani for £15m - £12m upfront at least and he is yours!!!

( I don't believe it for a second but Utd might be lucky)

Nani has been linked with a few places, Juve, Monaco and now Arsenal - on his day he could walk into most of those teams easily, its just how frequent those days now come along that's the issue. Maybe he needs a new challenge

I hope Moyes doesn't agree to the wage hike the player is reported to be after, I personally think that's the wrong way to go - and this summer is the start of his final year contract wise so something surely HAS to happen before the start of the season.

Bales agent doing his best to get Bale a payrise somewhere in the premiership, either pushing his money up at Spurs or trying to get a club to get moving in the EPL. There's no way he's going abroad.

"Listen, it's crazy, but whatever Neymar cost, Gareth Bale is worth more"

Agent doing his job. Controversial.
