I hope and expect that Suarez will still be as committed on the pitch as he always is - I don't think anything off the pitch will take away he's natural competitiveness on the pitch. I think that will be helped by the fact that I'm sure he appreciates the support he's received from the club and it's supporters and the fact that we're coming into a WC season (assuming Uruguay qualify (I have no idea where they currently stand)), where it will be important for him to be playing.

We've seen previously where clubs have refused to sell players despite them wanting a move and even causing considerable problems (Modric for example). Suarez still has 3 years left on his contract so even if he wants to leave, unless we receive a bid that the club believes will benefit Liverpool, they won't sell him. If somebody offers an amount that we feel will benefit us, he'll go - I have no idea how much that would be though.

It will be interesting to see what kind of figure they value him at.

Unfortunately you need to point out the obvious sometimes. Whenever a player reportedly wants to leave a club, according to this place, twitter and similar, it automatically means "he's off". There is of course a small matter of agreeing a deal with the selling club first.

Blaming the English media as the reason he wants a move? I dunno, I'm not sure I buy that. If that genuinely is the reason though then the situation is far from untenable from Liverpool's point of view, just an arm round the shoulder and I'm sure they can bring him around

EDIT: Full quotes for anyone who hasn't seen them

"I'm happy at Liverpool, I'm happy because of the fans. I made a mistake, I'm human, but they've talked about me in ways they shouldn't have," Suarez said.

"My family have suffered and things got out of hand. My daughter and my wife have suffered. I'm not prepared to continue to put up with the English press.

"I love Liverpool, but if there is a chance of playing somewhere else...I suffered too much as a kid to get where I am to be attacked unfairly by the English press. They haven't appreciated me as a player, they've just judged my attitude.

"I've talked to my agent, there's nothing concrete. To say no to Madrid would always be difficult and more so with the team they have.

"I have a contract with Liverpool, but it would be very difficult to say no to Real Madrid. There are a lot of rumours in the transfer period, but you never know until firm offers are made.

"I've talked to the coach (Brendan Rodgers), and he knows what I want. He was a player. Some of the players understand my situation - enough said."

Yeah nothing to see here, he'll still be a Liverpool player come September

He is a funny one Suarez. Everyone and I mean literally everyone rates him as easily one of the top players in the league. The media always talks about his indiscretions because he seems to time them perfectly to make sure there is never too much of a gap between them. As far as I know, the English media haven't been writing articles about how wonderful Bale is every week along with RvP. Controversy sells papers.

If he doesn't want the abuse for his family then perhaps he shouldn't be such a grade A **** at every opportunity. Hes just got a massive victim complex.

"my wife and daughter have suffered" - really????

Maybe you shouldn't be so much of a numpty then and shut your ***** face

(Im not excusing the media if that's what he is referring to, but he has to take some of the blame for that also)

Balotelli left England partly because of the media and every time his time in England is brought up he mentions it being a factor for why he didn't like it here. The weather, food and the people also. I reckon Suarez feels the same way?
Can't imagine him sitting in on a Wednesday night with some fish and chips and watching Coronation St with Henderson and Downing round!

I won't be surprised if Suarez leaves, he doesn't help himself with the things he does but he is more than good enough to play for any team in Europe and he is getting into his prime I think and so he needs to be at a team that has a shot at winning trophies consistently.

:D

looks like he's off anyway judging by those comments.

no denying his ability but he ****s things up for himself.

I think he actually said he would announce it. I'm not sure if he was the first (it's not been officially confirmed yet btw) but he was the first I saw call the Aspas signing.

And on Suarez, Tony Barrett's reporting tonight that Suarez has a buyout clause in his deal, "believed to be in excess of £40m". I read earlier today that buyout clauses in the UK can't be enforced though so that might mean nothing.

No idea. I'm not sure how Balague, a Spanish journo, would be breaking a transfer between an English and German side for a Greek player though.

If he is off can't blame him, been an absolute joy to watch. re Aspas, read that he has been involved in 50% of celta's goals this year and had the highest goal to shot ratio of anyone in La Liga.

Not even close 100 shots 12 goals, 6 assists, highest goal to shot ratio, tosh.

That stat seems to be saying two things, that he is has the second highest total of goals + assists in the league.... which he absolutely is not, that is how it reads without the 53%, ignoring how the rest is written and focusing on the Messi + 53%, if it means highest percentage of involvement in team goals, thats because Celta couldn't score to save their lives, they got relegated scoring 36 goals...

Worth noting that Vela has 14 goals and 9 assists and about the same last year.

Iago scored 6 in 10 starts in the second division last year and 3 goals in 6 starts + 19 sub appearances in the second division the year before.

At 25 he's had one proper season in the top league and didn't do badly, but significantly worse than the year before in the second division and before that he was pretty rubbish. I can't remember the name of the last striker you bought who had one good season in the second division then scored around 10 in his first season in the prem league :p

Depending on the fee he's sounding more like a back up player, and maybe he'll be okay for that. Nothing in his history suggests he's a potential replacement for Suarez or anywhere near as good a goal scorer as Sturridge who has 3 years with a very decent scoring record, two seasons with circa 10 goals in around 10 appearances, and a season in between mostly playing wide right when he also managed to get about 10 goals but in a lot more games(but not really as a striker and Torres is not the type of player to play well with a Sturridge type).

If he's cheap and is meant as back up and then comes good, great, if he's intended to be a starter and Rodgers is putting all his eggs in his basket... its got recipe for disaster written all over it.

A fresh start seems best for everyone. Liverpool would be silly to not let Suaraz go. He's a talented player but to read some of the things said about him after last season...Nows the time to sell to maximise the fee and re-invest on multiple players.

To clarify, is Iago Aspas the player that everyone calls "Iago" and was quite hyped up a few years back? Or is this somebody else? And if so, what happened to that Iago?

Fair enough. I wonder who else Balague thinks we've signed - got to assume it's somebody based in Spain, given that it's him who's reporting it. I'm thinking a winger or a centre back. Possibly Cuenca?
