The reason I think we have the upper hand is because of Txiki and Soriano. Both know Thiago well and Txiki is apparently good friends with Thiagos agent and family.

As well as that we are getting Pellegrini who will be tasked with building his team around young players meaning Thiago would be a key player and also the chance to work with and learn from some of the best players in the world and playing with them every week. Not waiting around at Barca for Xavi to retire.

Expect the Leandro deal to be done as early as this week :)

A number of recognised 'spurs in the known' sources have confirmed this. Nothing concrete on the Villa deal though as his wages are a stubmbling block

but they've been 'confirming it' for over a year when all we've ever really done is flirt. same with moutinho.

however, now AVB has proven he has a plan, maybe levy will listen. with the right signings, we'd have finished top 4.

So, Wenger is yet again touted as having a massive war chest and we more than ever need an influx of some real quality. First signing a 20 year old French division 2 player.... Next target Clement Grenier. I'm not feeling it!

Is true of any club :p

hm.

bit of a round-up on yahoo. bale now worth £80m :D

The Tottenham star is attracting interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, while Paris Saint-Germain are also in a position to move for the winger.
The fact that all five clubs are able to spend big could mean that although Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is ‘fighting a losing battle’ to keep Bale, he will be able to command a huge fee for the 23-year-old, with the bidding war could drive the price up to around £80m.
Real Madrid, who are looking to respond to Barcelona’s signing of Neymar, are currently in pole position, particularly with Spurs keener to sell abroad than to direct rivals, and the paper quotes Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett talking about what an ‘honour’ it would be if the Spanish giants moved for him.
The Daily Star goes a step further and says that Real Madrid have even set a deadline for the completion of the deal – June 15.
They also suggest the fee might be some way lower – at more like the £60m mark.
The deal would not put them off a move for Luis Suarez, either, because with the anticipated sales of Angel di Maria (Monaco, £24m), and Gonzalo Higuain (Juventus, £21m), the Madrid club would have plenty of money in the coffers.
Tottenham may already be planning how to spend the Bale millions, if The Sun is to be believed. The paper reports that the North Londoners will commit £30m to landing strikers David Villa and Leandro Damiao in a bid to completely overhaul their strikeforce.
Levy is trying to negotiate a fee of £8m plus add-ons for Villa, and a bid closer to £20m for Damiao after a £16m offer was turned down in January.
But elsewhere Bale’s is not the only transfer which could see the two Manchester clubs go head-to-head, if the back pages are to be believed.
City are expected to join the chase for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, according to the Daily Mail.
United were the first team to express an interest in bringing the former Arsenal man back, but with Manuel Pellegrini set to arrive at City and bring Liga talent with him, Fabregas will have the choice of both Manchester clubs.
United’s alternatives in central midfield include Thiago Alcantara, also of Barcelona, and Kevin Strootman, the Netherlands international currently at PSV.
City, meanwhile, are also looking at Isco of Malaga and Jesus Navas of Sevilla.
The Daily Express take a look at another big-money transfer that could pit two clubs against one another – Arsenal and Chelsea are both apparently keen on £25m Montengrin forward Stevan Jovetic.
Arsenal have been tracking the Fiorentina man for some time, but Chelsea’s interest is newer and reflects the fact that they have ruled Napoli striker Edinson Cavani too expensive at £52m (along with wages of £250,000 a week).
And finally, in a couple of interesting lines – Carlos Tevez’s exit from Manchester City is not yet assured, say The Guardian, with the Argentine waiting to see if he is offered a new deal. The 29-year-old currently has just one year remaining on his current contract.
And as Roberto Martinez moves closer to the Everton job, Owen Coyle and Stuart Pearce are the leading names in the frame for his current position at Wigan (Mirror).

from the sun but this rumour is gathering a lot of weight. would love to see an attack containing this pair. get a creative source in midfield and a new left back. sandro and kaboul fit again and spurs would be a great force.

of course, neither will probably sign.

With an aging forward and a unproven Brazilian, a very expensive one at that ?

His goal return is poor in Brazil, im not sure why he appears to be rated so highly by some.

i have my reservations too and in all honesty, i'd have preferred we went for benteke as we know he is capable in the pl but i gather AVB has knowledge of damiao and is pushing for the signing.

villa, again. not so sure he'd be worth the wage. not as good as he was and would he suit our system?

i do feel for £30m and the wages they'd demand, we could be spending the cash better on other players.

If you want a big powerful striker, Lukaku fits that bill imo. Chelsea clearly aren't going to use him and he could probably be got him for less than what they paid (18mill wasn't it?).

If, thats a big if, Luis is off I wouldn't mind us taking a long hard look at him. Different players true, but think he could fit in well.

You are just giving DM ammo here lol

Its going to be a long transfer window, especially with Fab being thrown into the mix of going to Utd/Chelski/City.

Now that would be a signing if he returned to Arsenal...we can dream just like the Utd fans ;)

I know he's only had one decent season, but do Liverpool fans believe they can continue to cling onto the top 7/8 without Suarez?

Easily. He will be replaced. I'm sure we had this when Torres left. Did Arsenal fans think they could replace RVP - they may have had to spread the goals/assits around but they did.

I think there are 4 teams that underperformed last year and can improve on their points tally from the season just gone.

Man City
Chelsea
us
Newcastle

The rest generally hit the same points plateau.

This league is ****, we just have to believe in ourselves, not make stupid individual errors and have that bit of luck that's been missing for a few seasons and we can not only match but improve on our 7th place. I threw it in the banter thread but if all shots that hit the woodwork went in, we would have finished 4th. We aren't as bad as people like to make out (conversely on the odd occasion we are).

I'm not massively worried.

I'm just bored of the same **** every window. The team is getting progressively worse every season now and I'm fed up of us signing no marks to replace the average dross with more average dross.

Yup, definitely. We actually play better football without him as it is. He's a fantastic individual player, but slows the ball down an awful lot, which doesn't suit our other attacking players. When he plays, it's a case of Suarez scores or nobody does. When he doesn't, other players are much more effective. If we replace him intelligently, we'll be fine.

Yeah it is depressing. I think we picked up a good couple of players last time, it was just the fact that we needed them added to our team and not sell anyone, especially not sell our best and replace with a few.

If we keep our team, remove some baggage and add two or three top class players then I will be happy.

We will have to see. Wenger needs to add big this summer or we will be losing our best players again next summer. Either that or Wenger will be gone.

With the replacement of Fergie at Utd it is the ideal time to hit the market big and really go for it!
