This would finish F1 for me. However, I suspect he is just headline grabbing.

This.

Bernie is renowned for making wile suggestions or claims. It works, as it get people talking about the issues.

If you aim for massive change its much easier to get some smaller ones agreed than if you just aim for the small ones to start with.

This is nothing more than a nudge to get people talking about making the sport better. Don't expect sprinklers to appear on track.

Let's not forget that bernie invented trolling

as i said its more than likely hes just trolling , the start of the F1 season is near a few wacky qoutes from bernie and he gets loads of advertising for F1 on every motorsport related website/forum , every newspaper writes an article about it etc.

hes just getting F1 into peoples minds before the season kicks off

You know, when I saw that Bernie was suggesting artificial rain, I had to laugh.

I still contend that an artificial wet race would be a heck of a lot of fun. It will never happen though, if only due to the environmental impact it would have. The amount of water required to keep an entire track wet, per unit of time is monumental.

I think if they staged an artificial wet race as a one-off, it would certainly attract a lot of media attention, but I can't see it as a regular occurrence.

Oh and to have the sprinklers on for only a short time wouldn't make much difference. The water would dry out so quickly, that it just wouldn't have enough of an effect. I can see the RBR cars opening up a gap at the front, at a rate of 1s/lap over the rest of the field, for half the race. The sprinklers come on and Hamilton/Button begin to close the gap. Sprinklers go off and RBR cars once again open up a huge gap, very quickly.

If you have to get wet, you need at least 80% full wet race.

I read recently that Bernie is 80 years old. I realised he was old, but not "that" old.
A lot of people criticise Bernie, but the guy has kept the F1 circus running for many years and has made (and is continuing to make) it a huge sport.

the thing that makes wet races exciting is knowing the time to change tyres etc, knowing when the track will be wet takes a lot of that away

Maybe they should have a load of different tyre compounds and each team picks them out of a hat? Or maybe throw oil on the track?
