Sunday Times to investigate OLED Screen Burn Issues

"Fault" implies an unplanned engineering issue or accident on the production line.
No
3-sigma engineering process say - you know 1in 20 sets will be out of legitimate use burn-in spec, it's not worth/possible for manufacturer testing to triage those sets, and indeed, cheaper just to take the returns.
So, planned failure, on the burn-in spectrum

I’m sorry but I think you’re wrong in this instance. With me it clearly shows a YouTube logo retention….which you only get a logo on the main menu and not when playing content. I’ve had m6 oled less than 3 years …. And I game / Apple TV / YouTube. That logo shouldn’t appear.
If I am wrong what part is that then! And game UI static you can\will get retention from any game playing too long so don't spread false information, if you can burn-in an OLED with YouTube logo in less than three years that's improper usage on one channel it a same for game. I have read many reviews on C8\C9 users not getting burn-in. The manufacturers was right it's not an OLED panel fault it's the User fault and you have just shown that.

WTH are you talking about?? The YouTube logo would probably be on my screen for a max 20 minutes a day as I’m playing videos so the logo disappears when in use. And that’s worst case scenario. I do actually work and sleep you know

20 minutes is not improper use

Another YouTube idiot! After he burn-in a OLED, in just two months he needs new followers to spread his 'idiotic practice'

What are you on about?

He's spreading awareness that OLED's still have burn in issues and aren't good for gaming or pc use. Yeah if you don't have good eyesight or are ignorant on what to look for that is fine but a lot aren't in that boat.

Just stop it with burn in fears. There is away too prevent burn-in with just some common sense but others don't understand, burn-in on OLED televisions is a result of static images or on-screen elements displaying on the screen uninterrupted for many hours or days at a time – with OLED light brightness typically at peak levels. The C9/CX/C1 pixel refresh starts at 2,000hours, so in a 24-hour period you watch a movie, play some games, watch some TV shows, chances are you'll never experience burn-in like I said another YouTube idiot just look at the image of the video What a big baby. I get a pixel refresh on my OLED every 6 months on PC gaming the LG OLED is built for PC use but with some common sense.

He needs to buy a book on OLED for dummies:eek:

I'd rather not have to baby my screen and just enjoy it. For gaming I therefore use LCD.

The idea that everyone has the same use for a screen as you do is moronic, not people using screens however they want to.

Here's an analogy. I'm a farmer. I need a range rover to go over my rough terrain. What you are saying is that I should buy a Lamborghini and just drive it on the flat bits only. If there is a rough bit stop and get out and walk. But I don't want to walk. I want to drive. So I should buy a range rover and just do that. But no I should buy a Lamborghini and if it gets damaged I'm the moron because I should have only drove it on flat smooth surfaces because that's what you do.

You're missing the point, tons of people are using these for gaming or productivity without issue. I've only seen one or two reports of burn-in on 2020/21 OLEDs if that. Meanwhile I'm following communities like this in several places with tens or hundreds of accounts of heavy usage and no issue.

Do those people use it solely for gaming and nothing else? Games with HUDS prominent on screen?

Friend uses his pc on his CX, so constant icons on it and games with it etc. Hasn't had any issues after a year and leaves it pretty much on all the time. Has got burn in protection from JL though just in case. :p

Most people are ignorant though. If he uses a plain white screen it should be easier to spot it and it will only get worse with time.

Also JL got rid of burn in protection did they not?

They should be reporting on the issues of OLED Banding on Grey tones and dark areas in movies its terrible ! Why isnt that being mentioned and why don't the reviewers pickup on it , Just watched Dune tonight on HBO 4k and the HDR Banding was pretty bad throughout the movie on my LG C1 65" If you don't know what banding is its vertical bars going up the screen and what it does it show different tones to what it should be so because the colours are not blending in correctly you see the bars , Problem with all OLED tech

Banding used to be horrible on plasma as well. Seems inherent to tv's with that type of tech.

I sent my second CX back because of banding. First one was dead on arrival, but third panel has been flawless.

HBO max stuff is highly compressed down. Notice crap even on LCD panels on various colours. Bit different when you watch a 80gb blu ray to a 20gb streamed one. Mad Max and Blade Runner 2049 are good ones to test. Watch the uhd disk version then a uhd streaming version and you will see what I mean.

Protect plus still shows screen burn as part of the warranty if you take the service at £140 for 5 years.
