Sunglasses: Polarization

The only issue I found with my Oakleys is that when looking at my phone screen in the car (navigation) the screen is a lot darker but if I tilt my head a different angle I can see the screen brighter. AMOLED+Polarised has a weird effect :p

For everything else it's superior, excellent on a hot sunny day.

As for the glasses, take a trip to a factory outlet (for anyone else looking, op already has them now I see :p). I got mine for less than £70 :)

where are these 'factory outlets selling oakleys for less than 70 quid' you speak of
no doubt there will be nothing of the kind near me

Local one to me is in Gunwharf, mine are around a year or so old now.

Edit*
I did get them on offer, they always have various offers on though so bound to find something you like.

I guess that's the idea of them really.

Yep. Polarized lenses basically work by filtering out horizontally polarized light (glare off flat water and surfaces tends to be horizontally polarized). Hence why sometimes it makes it hard to read LCD screens etc.

I would never wear sunglasses without polarisation now.

Worth the money to buy a decent pair. Spent £250 on Maui Jims, still totally unmarked and perfect 5 years later.

Only ever buy/wear polarised. They are far superior. Also, polarised are not cheap, so you know its a quality made lens.

I have a polarized pair of Ray Bans but my dad has a pair of cheapo no name polarised glasses. I cant tell the difference between them when I have them on so perhaps the reason they arent cheap is that the big names jack the prices up.

Dont get me wrong I wouldn't buy a non polarised pair now, but I just wonder how high quality they are if a £25 pair of no name glasses can achieve the same results as a £150 pair (iirc the non polarised version of the RB's was £90, so £60 difference).

I've got some polarised Dirty Dogs which were about £45 and they're great, the polarisation is nice for driving.

They're not of the same build quality as my Von Zippers or my Oakleys though. They're a bit creaky. But they were less than £50 so I'm not fussed, plus it's hardly like they creak while they're on my face.

Oakley go through their lens specs and exactly what you get for the money like anti fog/mist, water repelling, anti finger print and so on. Cheaper ones may well be polarised but they probably wouldn't live up to the task in an active environment.

I've got a pair of Oakleys that are only a pain when you look at your phone or the clock in the car.

Perfect for driving as they cut out all the glare.

Edit - Oakley Batwolf apparently :D

I have a cheap pair that I got from the local fishing shop for about £10. They ain't that well constructed or stylish but they do an alright job when I wear them for flying my model aircraft.

I can't say that I ever noticed any issues when using them to look at the LCD screen on my transmitter.
