Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Thanks freefaller and others for giving me advice ages ago about putting size on. I was stuck at 12stone 9-11 pounds for months maybe nearly a year. Took your advices and im sitting at 13 stone 10pounds, took a year to do it but ive gone up in size and strength:)

Awesome stuff matey - I'm really glad I could help, you did the hard work though - and it does take time - but if you do it right that will stick with you. :)

just try what i said, if you eat it along with fruit i bet your pee isnt illuminous.

why do you think that is?

Taking on more fluids undoubtedly.

You're right however, that a lot of supplements SHOULD be taken with food to better be uptaken by your body - however, an excess is an excess. Things like vit D and fish oils are absolutely pointless taking on an empty stomach.

I take all of my multi vits and other such things with food and still get the luminous pee it makes no difference with water soluble compounds if your body doesn't need it, it will be flushed out unlike fat soluble ones which can be stored and used when needed.
Although I completely agree things like that should be taken with food to enhance uptake.

Wait you mean you don't absorb over 100% of every nutrient?!!! Whats wrong with you?! :p

FYI:

If you don't already know guys whey is scarce in the EU market and many companies cant even get it!

Prices have gone up 80% in the last 18 months so expect some companies closing down [Whey Cons and Bulk Whey for example due to limited margins]. China and Food manufacturers are forward buying up to 2 years hence the huge rises and it probably won't get better for another 18 months. Not sure why though.

Unfortunately veg based whey's are too expensive to manufacture and don't taste as nice.

Veg proteins are more costly to manufacture as it is, and their level of protein is not as high, so you have to take more to get the same amount gram for gram. Also it doesn't taste a way that people enjoy.

DS - I'm of the same mindset - I generally do feel a little bit "better" when I take supps when my diet is crap and I'm pushing myself hard. Also, if I'm depleting myself, I do feel better for taking some (in particular some of the herbal remedies and things like fish oils). It doesn't have a magic bullet sort of effect, but it's very subtle. I spend maybe £180 a year on supps if that? It lasts me long enough!

What they need to do is manufacture aminos that don't taste rank, and then peri workout nutrition (which arguably aminos are better anyway) will be the way forward... Prices may go up to as much as £6 a kg!

BCAAs are better peri work out, EAAs are best pre and post work out generally.

Furthermore, BCAAs exist in pill forms which is much more pleasant than that of EAAs putrid taste.

If you want the definition of hell...

EAAs & OAKG mixed together... yuck.

Supplements have their place. If you are eating really well and training as hard as you can, adding in a few supplements can really help with this like focus, recovery, energy levels and making sure you don't lose any of the hard earned muscle.

Agreed they have their place, but shouldn't be relied on IMO,

Cheets, whilst nailing your diet is the best way, but icecold is right, lb for £ whey is the cheapest way of getting protein in your diet.
