...seems to have all but disappeared from both ATI and Nvidia's new cards since the beginning of the year. Now, while most of you here don't seem to play pre-directx 9 games, there are a lot of people that still do judging by the complaints on various forums around the web. So far, I've found no solution to this problem but to go back to an older graphics card (eg the Directx 9 Geforce 7xxx or Radeon X19xx range).

To give you an idea of some of the games affected (all of which have major screen corruption or crash completely):

Thief 1\2
Alien v Predator
X-Wing series
Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
Crimson Skies

I am submitting bug reports to the manufacturers but I'm not sure whether they'll get back to me..

cant say ive had any probably playing older directx games, but i havent played much other than unreal + tournament and a couple of other miscellanious really old 3d games

Never had a problem here with any game I've fired up from yonder years.

Apart from issues with XP compatibility but that's Microsoft not ATi/nVidia

I think the problems are more XP/Vista and backwards compatibility than ATI/Nvidia as such - tho there are the odd driver features that have been updated breaking backwards compatibility.

They worked fine in XP previously with my old Geforce 7900...
