Surround Sound for Cinema Room

So those would be the best choice for my needs?

And can you suggest me an amp that will be suitable with them?

Also, will I notice the difference with the amp as opposed to without?

Thanks

you have nothing to plug them into without an amp ;)

the choice is yours. id go for a second hand setup if it was me, that depends on how long you want to wait though!

amp i would suggest anything above the onkyo 507 range, or the dannon amps do have top reviews

Lol that was noobish of me...

I will probably buy at the end of april or something like that. The thing is I am still planning my Cinema Room, so... essentially it will cost me a lot of money cause these are the things I need to get:

- NAS
- HTPC
- LED TV
- 5.1 Surround
- Floor fitted carpet
- Window Blinds
- Door (My room currently does not have a door lol)
- Sofa
- Desk for TV, amp and PS3(which I already have lol)

So I would spend about £4000 on that setup which is a lot to spend at once.

So I am trying to figure out what to buy and what to buy first to start it next month and maybe finish it by the end of June.

I was thinking of going for the Boston Acoustics XS 5.1 (very good reviews out there) and an Onkyo TX-SR608 or Marantz 1601... Dunno which one I should get. Both had good reviews with the XS 5.1.

Any other suggestions (about anything in my cinema room) are welcome. Thanks

are you looking for small speakers or something a bit more noticeable. i was pretty impressed with this system http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/7044 when i heard it in the store.

Please no, Samsung's systems are rubbish. I had one for about 10 months before I finally got tired of everything going wrong on it; got a full refund and bought the Onkyo HTS3305 system and haven't looked back, it's staggeringly good for the money.

i was just showing what you can get as a all in one package for £300 i never said it was going to last and be great lol.

the 608 you have there is a awesome amp! its what i will be looking at upgrading to! you seem to be getting the idea now tho so my work here is done!!

i do have to ask why you are set on LED? why not plasma?

ive just been in the market for a LED or Plasma TV and the ones i looked at and compared i found that the best was plasma, i went for a 50" Samsung plasma and think its fantastic! 600hz refresh rate and a great picture. just an idea but LED does seem to be a lot more expensive than plasma, but if its the thin set ur looking for then that will have to be LED ;)

Assuming you are getting everything you need with your HTPC, you can't really go wrong with this as recommended by thevoice. You get a decent amp, capable of the lossless DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD, optical and coaxial ports as well as HDMi connectivity. You might even find it for under £300 if you look around. it will be sufficient to gt you off the ground but upgraditis might bite you eventually.

Ditch the LED TV for a plasma for starters, save some money there.
By the sounds of things you probably don't really need a HTPC, but something like a Playon HD will do just fine. AND you certainly don't need to be getting worried about TrueHD etc again from the sounds of things.

However, if you want to get a decent setup, do some more reading and research plus listen to what others have said :)
My "sound" was far more $$$ than anything else to do with my setup. It's what gives the true cinema feeling.

I've never liked a plasma tv tbh... The tv is the one thing I am sure off lol...

Thanks for the suggestions :)

So Boston Acoustics XS 5.1 (very good reviews out there) and an Onkyo TX-SR608 will be fine right? (And then maybe upgrade to more serious speakers down the line while keeping the same amp ;))

Also, to Clipsey, it's not that I need or not need an HTPC, I want the best setup that will last me a couple of years, and I've been wanting to build an HTPC for some time now, so HTPC with XBMC is what I really am set on, not to mention it will be great since I have over 3000 movies :/

Also, for the setup of the speakers and amp above, no one ever told me if I need a sound card or not. You can maybe spec me one if it is useful and necessary?

Thanks

Fair enough mate, if you're doing it for the long haul then a HTPC will be more beneficial. I was more hinting at not skimping on the sound :)
You won't need a sound card, just get an ATI card that is HD4XXX or above (I have the 5450), this has TrueHD passthrough and will let your amp do the work.
So get a decent amp if anything else, and then add components if and when you can :)
Onkyo's are highly recommended. XBMC is ok, I personally don't get on with it that well.
DvD's and Blu-Rays?

Get yourself a half-decent AV receiver, and a pair of half-decent speakers, and run with a stereo setup up front.

Later, when you've got some more money, add a half-decent centre to match the fronts.

Then, add a pair of half-decent rears to match the fronts.

Then, add a half-decent sub.

Hi again,

Since I've decided on what to buy...

Does anyone know a shop that has the SR608 and BA Soundware XS, that delivers to MALTA?

Does not need to be from the same shop, but the same shop would be a bonus.

Thanks
